Abbie Eaton was in unstoppable form when the BRSCC’s North Western Centre took charge at Anglesey on 9/10th August as she won all 3 of the Mazda MX5 SuperCup races that were staged during the course of a weekend that was sometimes bright, sometimes wet but always windswept leading everyone to be thankful, once again, for the stamina of the club’s marshals.

Eaton would have been relieved when the first Mazda MX5 SuperCup event was halted at the end of the opening lap because Liam Murphy’s car was resolutely stuck on grid as she had been demoted from pole down to third. She made no mistakes at the restart and converted her early lead into a win by almost 6 seconds from a 5 way fight which was won by Tom Roache. Mike Comber finished third on the road but was later disqualified for a technical infringement which meant he had to start race 2 from the back of the grid. He had worked his way up to third by lap 7 and held on to that place for 6 circuits before he was demoted by Matt Davies and Paul Sheard in one fell swoop at Rocket. Davies held on to the final place on the podium for a couple of tours before Sheard and Comber demoted him – this was the order in which they finished. Eaton and Roche once again occupied the first two place as they did in the third encounter. On that occasion Roche got alongside the leader at one point on the back straight but he was unable to make the move stick.

The Dunlop TVR Challenge was another to provide a trio of races that were packed full of action. It was a case of Tuscan vs Sagaris in the opener as Tim Davis and Dean Cook battled it out at the front of the field. With just over 5 minutes to go things were building up to quite a crescendo with the pair swapping places many times on the same lap but then the red flags came out as David Chant’s Tuscan had come to rest at Rocket with flames erupting from its exhaust. Davis was ahead at this key moment. All bets were off for the second outing when a heavy downpour saturated the tarmac shortly after proceedings got underway. The only front-runner who had the foresight to fit wets as the dark clouds loomed above the assembly area was Darren Smith who cantered away from a frantic 5 car battle for second in which great car control was displayed in the difficult conditions. As the track had dried out for the final blast, Cook and Davis were once again to the fore with the former coming out on top this time around.

Not even a reversed final grid prevented Jonathan Greensmith from taking home a hat-trick of winner’s trophies in the Toyo Tyres Porsche Championship in his race-prepared Boxster. Jayson Flegg did the double in the Standard Boxster Class on Sunday after Michael Goodacre had come out on top in a closely fought encounter on Saturday while the victories in the very open 924 category were shared between Karl Rossins, Simon Hawksley and Alistair Kirkham.

In the first pair of Demon Tweeks/Sparco XR Challenge encounters, siblings Mark and Simon Robinson squabbled over who would take victory and, after a great deal of place swapping, they took a win apiece. The third and “deciding” contest went to Mark by a comfortable margin because Simon had started from the pit-lane after a mechanical defect which manifested itself on the green lap required attention. At the end of the 20 minutes he had worked his way up to fourth allowing Greg Speight and Tony Rudd to take the final places on the podium.

The AlfaShop Alfa Romeo and Arrowpak Sports & Saloon contenders each enjoyed a brace of races. In the former Graham Saegar took his GTV to two wins. Andy Robinson may have been able to challenge him but came to grief at The Banking on lap 1 in both events – bringing out the red flags on the second occasion. Wayne Schofield’s Suzuki Cappucino and Simon Deacon in a Porsche 997 each won a Sports & Saloon contest.
