ALFASHOP ALFA ROMEO SEASON PREVIEW

CATEGORIES:

Mel Healey is back to defend her hard won Alfa title.

The BRSCC Alfashop Alfa Romeo Championship will be celebrating its 30th year when the 2011 season gets underway at Silverstone this Saturday and as ever it promises to be another closely fought season!

It is always interesting to race on new versions of a well known circuit and this year's opening rounds do just that, at Silverstone on the full GP layout and a month later on the new Snetterton "300" over Easter.

The outcome of the multi class Championship, run over 13 rounds between Saturday and the middle of October, is again hard to predict and for the past few seasons it has gone down to the wire at the final round.

In 2010, the championship celebrated its first female champion as Mel Healey outran the opposition in her class with a 2 litre 156. Mel will be back to defend her title, proudly carrying No. 1, but so will Andy Inman with whom she fought several battles last year and also Chris Finch who beat them both in that crucial last race at Donington. Another to watch in Class E is James Ford, although he won’t get his car finished in time for the Silverstone opener.

Saturday’s twenty five minute race will be run in conjunction with the British Production Touring Car Championship, the plan being for each to start from a separate grid with a gap that will be decided after qualifying.

Featuring in the race will be the returning Class A1 GTV 3.8 of Roger Evans and Chris Oxborough's supercharged 75 both of which are likely to be running at the front with the A2 cars of Chris Snowdon (33 16v) and Steve Dymoke (156).

Clive Hodgkin's 75 will lead the way in Class B with Class C regulars – Sarah Heels (147 GTA) and Graham Seager (GTV) – looking to repeat the superb battle they had last year at Rockingham.

Alfashop remains as title sponsor with MMC Motorsport Insurance and Tyres (South Shore) in a supporting role. For more information about the Alfashop Alfa Romeo Championship CLICK HERE
