ANGLESEY HAT-TRICK FOR JAMES BLAKE-BALDWIN

CATEGORIES:

True to form it was a wet and windy weekend at Anglesey but that didn’t dampen the spirits of the 111 drivers and the marshals and officials who were at Trac Mon to do a job over the weekend.
James Blake-Baldwin more than made up for a disappointing start to the BRSCC Mazda MX-5 Championship at Silverstone last month by scoring a hat-trick of race wins and with it a big points haul. The Farnham racer won each Group A race comfortably – in race one it was from Brian Chandler and Alan Henderson, race two was from Chandler again and Jonathan JJ Clements and race three was from Clements and Henderson. The spoils in the B group races were shared between Kris Greatrex, Sam Smith and Clive Powles.
Jamie Jardine maintained his 100% record so far this season in the Pre 90 class of the Avon Tyres Formula Ford 1600 Northern Championship. The Class D Reynard driver was three seconds ahead of Stuart Jones in race one with Chris Hodgen a very close third. In the second outing, Hodgen turned the tables on Jones and came very close to finishing Jardine’s winning streak, losing out by just a third of a second.
The first Demon Tweeks/Sparco XR Challenge race of the weekend saw a win for Cheshire driver Tony Rudd in his XR2, ahead of Lee Shropshire and Jonathan Wells, who took the Class B (XR3i) win. The same three drivers made up the podium for the second race but this time it was Jonathan Wells who headed the pack with Tony Rudd and Lee Shropshire dropping down a place each respectively.
Both races in the Post 89 Northern Formula Ford Championship also returned the same podium but this time in the same order. James Raven made the long trip from his Portsmouth home more than worthwhile by claiming victory in each tour, beating Stuart Gough and David McArthur. James’ margin of victory was almost sixteen seconds in the first race but this narrowed to just over six in the second.
In Class C of the Jam-Sport Fiesta Championship, Ipswich’s Dave Ellesley took a brace of wins to take his season tally to five wins from six races. The competition behind Ellesley was fierce with Andrew Taylor and Joe Ferguson second and third in race one, but in race two they were dislodged by Dan Holland and David Grady, who is the only other driver to have won this season.
Classes A, B & D of the Jam-Sport Fiesta Championship run separately from the ST Class (Class C) and Class D’s Edward Cockill went one better than Ellesley, with his two race wins taking his season’s tally to six from six. James Appleby, also Class D (Zetec S) was second both times. Class A honours (Si) were shared by the Gravesend Dendy-Sadlers, father Pete winning race one and son Lee taking race two. Mundon’s Keith Chapman was the first Class B (Zetec) car home in each race.
The BRSCC Fiesta Junior Championship made history at Anglesey as it was the first time that both race winners were just 14 years of age, but only just, with Aaron Thompson winning the first race on the eve of his 15thbirthday. It was a great effort by the Romford driver who had failed to score a point in the previous rounds this season. Championship leader Michael Higgs was second with Rob Cox third. Thompson made the podium again in the second race but this time behind Higgs and race winner Geri Nicosia, who became the youngest winner in FJC history, aged just 14 yours and 11 months old.
