ARCHIE SCOTT BROWN REMEMBERED

Last weekend at Snetterton the Open Sportscar competitors were racing for the prestigious Archie Scott Brown Trophy which is awarded annually by the BRSCC East Anglian Centre.

Archie Scott Brown was a renowned sports car driver in the 1950’s and was a prominent member of the BRSCC. Despite suffering from severe disabilities to his legs and right arm from birth, the Scot proved to be a fierce competitor and won over 70 race wins, many in international competition.

He was worked closely with Brian Lister and scored many of his wins at the wheel of a Lister-Jaguar. He was tragically killed in May 1958 aged just 31 during a sports car race at Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium.

Tony Sinclair wrapped up a fantastic season by winning the Trophy for the second consecutive year. Tony had been crowned champion of the inaugural Itchy Feet BRSCC OSS Championship at Anglesey last month so the focus at Snett was the battle for the runner-up slot and Class B title between Ginger Marshall and Simon Tilling.

Marshall has been campaigning the Bowlby a car he built in the 1990’s and Simon Tilling a Radical SR3. Simon should have taken the Class B title in the first race of the weekend but a puncture slowed him sufficiently for Ginger to pass him on the last lap just before the line keeping the battle live to the Sunday race.

Sunday was less dramatic with Simon driving a slow but sensible race to keep himself ahead of Ginger to take the Class B title and runner up in the Championship
