BRIAN LISTER 1926 – 2014 & DAVID STEARN 1939 – 2014

CATEGORIES:

Sad news reached us over the holiday period that two former servants of the BRSCC, Brian Lister and David Stearn, had passed away.

Brian Lister was a key figure in sportscar racing throughout the 1950’s and was perhaps best known for the Lister-Jaguar that his great friend Archie Scott Brown drove with such distinction in 1957. The following season Archie Scott Brown was tragically killed at Spa. Brian was devastated by Archie’s death and his enthusiasm and commitment to motorsport inevitably waned. He finally called an end to his motorsport career in 1959 following the deaths of Ivor Bueb and Jean Behra in August that year. Brian did however maintain an involvement in motorsport by serving as a BRSCC director in the late seventies and early eighties before stepping down from the Board in 1982. The BRSCC would like to extend its condolences to Brian’s widow and daughter.

David Stearn passed away after a long illness on 30th December and had been an official for our East Anglian Centre since 1962. His first role was a Spectator Marshal before graduating to the normal track side roles. He had a period as an Observer before taking on the role of Chief Marshal; he and his wife Linda were instrumental in organising the marshals for the early Willhire 24 Hour races.

For many years David continued to provide support to Peter Rodwell as Chief Marshal on the day after Peter took over as Marshals Secretary. More recently David had acted as a Safety Car Observer, until illness prevented it. David was a long-time member of the EA Centre Committee and together with Linda was a key figure in the Centre and will be much missed. Our thoughts are with Linda at this sad time.
