CADWELL CALLING!

Lincolnshire’s own mini-Nürburgring is the focus of our attention this weekend as the Northern Centre returns to the 2.187-mile circuit for the second of their two annual visits to Cadwell Park.

Our visitors from across the Irish Sea will be the first out of the blocks in the Reeltech Irish Global GT Lights Championship. It has been an incredibly hard fought season that saw Paul Fitzpatrick break his duck, by winning his first race, and Jake Byrne take the championship. However, Peter Drennan, Mark Twomey and Mark Braden will all be in contention in both races.

Paul Rose has dominated the Arrowpak Euro Saloon & Sportscar Championship this season and he will be at Cadwell tomorrow in his Saker to enjoy its cambers, twists and elevation changes, as will his JPR Motosport teammate, Steve Harris, who hasn’t missed a round. Rose looks odds on for the title but there is still a battle going on for Class C honours between Chris Whiteley and Nick Hayes, who are both campaigning a Seat Leon.

Our own Formula Jedi Championship is significant in the history of Cadwell Park as it has held the outright lap record for the circuit. Originally set by Nigel Reuben, current driver Richard Mitcham bettered it last year on the way to the title. Although Mitcham is out of the title reckoning he will line-up tomorrow determined to show champion-elect, Lee Morgan, that he is still a force to be reckoned with.

The Super Mighty Minis are always popular visitors to Cadwell Park, as they are to all circuits, and tomorrow’s double-header could go a long way to deciding the title. Hertfordshire’s Jamie White has built a healthy lead over veteran Bob Bennetts, and if White comes away with two wins, the title will be a formality.

In the Toyo Tires Porsche Championship, Boxster driver Will Sharpe will be aiming to impress sponsors 911 Sport, who are locally based Porsche specialists, and will be at Cadwell in force. Will currently lies third in the ‘full-fat’ Boxster class, just a point behind fellow Nottingham native, Steven Boyles. Rick Styrin is the overall leader, while Rebecca Jackson and Alastair Kirkham are the respective leaders of classes B & C.

Jonathan Lewis is back in action tomorrow in the Mighty Minis and having missed the Oulton double-header through illness, he urgently needs to make up some ground on title rival Zack Booth. Booth has been a revelation in what is his first season of circuit racing. The East Yorkshire teenager is sure to get plenty of support at what is very much his home circuit.
