CATERHAM PILGRIMAGE TO THE ‘RING

CATEGORIES:

This morning the famous Nürburgring will reverberate to the sound of almost a hundred Caterhams in earnest testing prior to this weekend's Caterham EuroFest meeting on the GP circuit.

Four championships from the renowned Caterham stable are in action; the BookaTrack.com Caterham Superlight R300s, and the Avon Tyres supported Supersport, Roadsport and Tracksport championships.

DPR’s Mark Shaw leads the way in the R300s after a significant mid-season championship shuffle of the top three drivers following an eventful and extraordinary meeting on the historic GP circuit at Brands Hatch in June. Shaw’s teammate, Paul Wilson lies second, whilst a double victory at Brands has catapulted Ian Payne into third.

In the Supersports, Aaron Head will be aiming to reassert his position as title favourite, after a mixed performance at Brands Hatch. However, Head still came away with an increased championship lead over Lee Wiggins, who maintains the gap to Jez Webb in third. Craig Currie will be one to watch at the Nürburgring, having impressed while winning at Brands.

Jon Mortimer will be hoping to get his Tracksport title challenge back on-track having surrendered the championship lead in a disappointing weekend at Brands Hatch. The consistent David Robinson was the main beneficiary – two second places finishes were enough for him to replace Mortimer at the top of the points table. Terry Langley and Kurt Brady, who were both races winners at Brands, will also be confident of pressing their claims this weekend.

Elliott Norris arrives in the Rhineland-Palatinate with a proud record of never having finished off the Roadsport podium this season. Elliott currently heads the points table and was on a serene route to the title until Brad Smith, who won both Brands outings, rudely interrupted his progress. Smith will be scheming to crank up the pressure further on Norris this weekend.

The Dunlop MSA Formula Ford Championship of Great Britain continue their European tour at Nürburgring this weekend, having paid recent visits to Zandvoort and Spa. It’s the first time Championship has held a round in Germany and, with 12 races remaining this season, they could prove crucial to the title hopes of several men.

Finland’s Antti Buri leads the championship currently having racked up eight wins from the opening 12 races in his JTR EcoBoost Mygale. But while Buri skipped this month’s EuroCup events at Spa and Zandvoort his rivals – including Jamun’s racing-winning trio Eric Lichtenstein, Jake Cook and Luke Williams – were busy honing their skills.

Adding to Sunday’s race action will be the Teekay Couplings Production GTi Championship and the Reeltech Irish Global Lights, who have made the long trip to Germany from the Emerald Isle.
