The coming holiday weekend is a very busy one for the BRSCC as we are involved in running no less than four meetings, which includes our North Western Centre meeting at Oulton Park. The eleven race schedule features the regular fare of the Avon Tyres Northern Formula Ford Championship, in both Pre 90 and Post 89 guises, but the majority of competitors in the paddock on Saturday will be from north of the border.

The Scottish Motor Racing Club (SMRC) are bringing over seventy of their competitors to Oulton Park to compete in the Scottish Legends, Celtic Speed Scottish Mini Cooper Cup & the Scottish Classic Sports & Saloon Championship, which will account for seven of the eleven races.

Ross Marshall is a ‘Legend’ in the making having won the championship in 2009 and again last year and he currently heads the points table from Robbie Burgoyne and Paul O’Brien. Carol Brown, Gerard McCosh and David Newall, who heads the Rookie standings, have also shown promising form so far this season.

In the Celtic Speed backed Mini Cooper Cup it is the Sleigh brothers, Tim & David, who are dominating. Tim won the first two rounds and David the next three but the Sleigh winning run was brought to an end in round six by Kenneth Brewster at Knockhill.

The Scottish Classic Sports & Saloons will field an eclectic mix of fantastic cars including Morgans, Porsches, Triumphs, Austins and four different Lotus models. Andrew Smith is the man in control having taken the chequered flag in all four rounds so far.

While the Oulton fans are sure to appreciate the Scottish visitors, they will also be pleased to see the Northern Formula Fords back in action. In the Post 89 category, Liverpool’s John Murphy arrives at Oulton on the back of a triple victory at Anglesey three weeks ago, so he is definitely the man to beat. Neil Winn, Martin Short & David McArthur will be amongst Murphy’s rivals determined to do just that. In the Pre 90s, the title battle is fast developing into a two-way fight between Class C’s Stuart Jones and Class D’s Nigel Dolan, who between them dominated the podium at the three Anglesey rounds.

Finally, the Oulton International circuit will reverberate to the sound of twenty-nine Porsches doing battle over two twenty-five minute races. Mark Sumpter won the opening round in his new 964 C2 at Brands Hatch. Ben Demetriou steered his Boxster S to victory in the second Brands Hatch race. Both can expect a strong challenge from local driver Marcus Carniel who will be looking to make up lost ground having missed the Brands opener.
