A successful debut outing in the Avon Tyres British GT Championship at Silverstone last year has prompted a full-season entry for 2011 from Iain Dockerill and Chad Racing, with BTCC star Steven Kane (pictured above) joining the team as Dockerill’s co-driver in the majority of the championship’s 10 races. They will drive a Ferrari 430 Scuderia backed by Green Apple Flooring.

Dockerill and Kane first teamed up last season for the Belgian GT series and collected a top-six finish for Chad in their sole UK outing. Iain says the switch to British GT is a timely one: “I became very involved last year in helping to organize things with the team and in the end it became more organizing and less driving. Switching to racing in Britain with my brother, Ivan, running the team, will hopefully leave me free to concentrate on doing what I enjoy.”

He says that former Formula Ford, F3 and BTCC racer Kane will be with him for most events: “Steven has some clashing commitments, so I will need to find an alternative team-mate for those, but he will be there to help for most. Ours is a good partnership and I have learned a lot from him.”

Dockerill is pleased to be returning with the 430 Scuderia: “It’s a proven commodity, unlike the new 458, and I think that that will be advantage for us. The field is looking extremely competitive for 2011 and with a lot of new cars it’s all very unpredictable, although the Balance of Performance programme should even things out. We are hoping for some good results and, above all, to enjoy our racing.”

He promises that the bright green livery of Green Apple Flooring (one of the largest online suppliers of laminate and real wood flooring products) will make the Chad Ferrari one that stands out in the field. He says: “Chad Racing has worked very closely with Green Apple for a number of years now, mainly in Belgium; racing in the UK will give added exposure to the Green Apple brand.”

“We are very pleased to welcome the return of Chad Racing, Iain and Steven,” said championship manager Benjamin Franassovici. “I am sure that they will be able to build on the result they scored at Silverstone last season and it will be great to see another Ferrari – even a green one – on the grid.”

There’s just under a fortnight to go before Easter Monday’s opening rounds of the Avon Tyres British GT Championship at Oulton Park. The British GT Championship is sponsored by UK tyre manufacturer Avon Tyres and is further supported by Sunoco Racing Fuels, Anglo American Oil Company and OAMPS.
