Northern Formula Ford
Welcome to the website of the Avon Tyres Northern Formula Ford Championship. The home of great single-seater action in the North West.
We offer cost effective racing for drivers of all ages – from youngsters taking their first steps in circuit racing to enthusiastic amateurs who compete for fun. No matter what your ability or experience, there will always be someone to race against in a friendly but ultra competitive environment.
Neil Winn, who starred in our series during 2012, is furthering his career by stepping up to the Formula Ford Ecoboost 200 Championship this year while many of our more seniors drivers have signed up for another season of fun in Northern Formula Ford.
We offer a regional home for cars that are custom-built pukka racers powered by the classic Ford 1,600 cc Kent engine. The light, focussed chassis designs offer supercar beating acceleration (0-60 mph in 2.5 seconds) at a fraction of the price. The grip and handling far exceed anything even the most expensive road car can offer.
Formula Ford was established in 1967 and chassis are still being constructed for the category. Our Championship has 5 classes catering for cars from the late ’60s to the present day – meaning there is an option available to suit nearly everyone’s financial situation. At each meeting a qualifying session is followed by 1, 2 or even 3 hard fought races.
The on-track competition is focussed on two of the country’s most outstanding circuits:
Oulton Park is situated in the rolling countryside of Cheshire
Anglesey Circuit offers spectacular views of the mountains of Snowdonia as racers charge past the pits.
Both facilities offer many corners that are a challenge for any driver to master. In addition, there is an annual “away day” to Donington Park - home of the 1993 European Grand Prix in which Ayrton Senna scored one of his most outstanding victories in treacherous conditions. Our drivers can follow in the wheel-tracks of one of the greats!
We have testimonies from BRDC Rising Star, Chris Middlehurst, who began his career as a 16 year-old in Northern Formula Ford and Burnley resident Mario Sarchet for whom racing is a hobby that provides enormous enjoyment.
