The BRSCC Alfa Romeo Championship has been running since the early 80s and still remains one of the best supported club racing series in the UK. It offers the opportunity to race in a very friendly, yet highly competitive, environment and with a wide variety of budget options. Newcomers to racing are warmly welcomed.
We are delighted that ALFASHOP will continue as our title sponsors for a eighth year in 2013. TOYO remained as control tyre supplier for the Production classes while MMC Motorsport Insurance were again an associate sponsor.
From the start, the Championship has been run in conjunction with the BRSCC although the day to day administration is in the hands of the Alfa Romeo Championship Association. It is open to any production based Alfa Romeo and is run in six classes that offer the opportunity to race a fully modified car on slicks or more standard versions on control tyres. Thanks to the BRSCC there is a good spread of circuits as well as different race formats.
One of the attractions is the large number of different Alfa Romeo models that can be used and more recently we have seen the emergence of such cars as the 147, 156 and 3 litre GTV alongside models which may go back as far as the Alfettas, Alfasuds and Giulias of the 1970s. The different class and model options allow competitors with budgets at both ends of the spectrum to take part and the Championship is as good a place for those who wish to start racing as it is for many who will never wish to race anything other than an Alfa Romeo.
In 2006 the Championship introduced a new class restricted to models using the current 2 litre 16 valve 4 cylinder engine. Very limited changes from the standard specification are permitted, the aim being to offer close racing on a level playing field while at the same time keeping costs under control. It has fostered interest in racing newer Alfa Romeo models over the six successful seasons.
Competitors are kept informed on all Championship matters by a regular e-newsletter, specific bulletins and a dedicated website - alfaracer.com
