FORMULA FORD SPREADS THE CASH REWARDS FOR DRIVERS AND TEAMS

The organisers of the Dunlop MSA Formula Ford Championship of Great Britain have revealed how Ford’s £30,000 cash prize fund – the richest purse in UK motorsport this season – will be distributed between competitors.

Each of the championship’s 10 BTCC-supporting race meetings will see £3,000 in cash prizes split between the three races:

• £500 will go to the Scholarship class winner in race one
• £500 for to the biggest improver in race one – the driver who gains the most places from grid spot to finish line
• £1,000 to the outright winner of race two, the ‘reverse grid’ race
• £1,000 to the outright winner of race three

Championship manager Sam Roach of RacingLine believes that the way the prize fund has been divided will reward more drivers and help promote healthy competition: “By definition a prize fund rewards the successful, but we wanted to ensure that as many drivers as possible have a chance of winning some much-needed cash. The £500 first-race award will certainly liven up the Scholarship class competition, as will the place-gainer’s prize.

“Race two of each weekend will be interesting also, because the grid will be formed from the finishing order of race one with the top half in reverse order. It means the first-race winner will have their work cut out to repeat the feat and claim the cash.”

Further incentives will be offered to Formula Ford competitors this season, including a set of Dunlop slick tyres, worth in excess of £500, each race weekend for the driver or team displaying the true spirit of motorsport.

Formula Ford’s dash for cash gets underway in two weeks (29/30 March) at the Brands Hatch circuit in Kent, where the championship is the sole single-seater support to the massively popular Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship, with live coverage on ITV4 for the Sunday race.
