The North Western Centre oversaw the BRSCC’s final meeting of the year at a chilly Anglesey on 2ndDecember. Formula Fords enjoyed two races while an eclectic mix of Saloons and Sportscars featuring everything from Ginetta G50s to a Peugeot 106 XSi contested a brace of 20-minute sprints plus a three-quarters of an hour Enduro.

Hamish McAllister was the star of the show in the Saloons and Sportscars, competing in only his third ever race meeting he won both shorter races in his BMW M3 and was runner-up in the 45 minute encounter.

John Saunders would have been red-faced under his helmet when the greasy conditions caught him out as he left the Assembly Area for the first covered-wheel thrash. The resulting spin meant he had to start from the back of the grid – at least this meant the Ginetta G50 driver had plenty of overtaking to enjoy enroute to an eventual 5th. Ahead of him was an entertaining 4 way dice which developed after a Safety Car period invoked by John Biddulph’s stranded XR2 at Church ended on lap 6. In this scrap, early leader Peter Young was pushed down to the back of the quartet by winner McAllister, Rob Spencer and Doug Carter.

After Young had taken the Enduro laurels, Saunders made amends for his earlier mishap by taking third in the final closed-wheel outing behind McAllister and Carter.

David McArthur took home two significant awards in the world of club level Formula Ford. Having won the Moose Trophy in the morning he followed this up by taking the Bernard Baxter Trophy in the afternoon. He excitedly explained later; “to win both in a weekend is beyond what I could ever have expected.”

Twice McArthur started from the drier side of the grid and this proved decisive in getting ahead of Ben Mitchell who was McArthur’s closest challenger. Mitchell was a tantalising 0.3 seconds adrift each time the chequered flag fell. Fastest man in qualifying was Sam MacLeod but he had a spin at The Banking on his first racing lap. His charge up the order earned him the final step on the podium. Second time out MacLeod retired on the opening tour due a coming together with Simon Hadfield. This incident necessitated a restart.F
