Yorkshire-based racer Phil House is to return to the APR Volkswagen Racing Cup to try to add the 2014 champion’s crown to those he won in 2004 and ’05. The Scirocco driver scored one race win this year on his way to championship fifth, and says that the experience gained with his new car will stand him in good stead for the coming season.

“The Scirocco went well in 2013,” said Phil, “but we had some issues with the engine mapping which led to overheating, and we need to do some work on the suspension to get on a par with the other Sciroccos. This year was my first full season of racing for a couple of years and I found that the competition had moved on massively since 2005, when I won it last. But I absolutely loved it and I now feel ready to push harder and really go for it.”

House, 33 and from Ripley, plans to be out testing his Scirocco, which is backed by Ripley Caravan Park and Dreamy Pet Products, from January so that he can hit the ground running at the start of the season.

Phil’s track career started in his teens in karts, and Formula Ford and Vauxhall single-seaters. He was Monoposto Champion in 2002 and took his twin VW Cup titles at the wheel of a self-prepared Beetle RSI. He went on to race in the Clio Cup and Mini Challenge before returning to the Volkswagen fold.

The APR Volkswagen Racing Cup returns to action on Easter Monday, 21 April, at the Oulton Park circuit in Cheshire. The 2014 champion wins a funded drive in the final round of the fabulous Scirocco R Cup in Germany.
