IRISH JUDICIAL TO DECIDE CHAMPION

CATEGORIES:

The 2009 Webcon UK National Club Formula Ford Championship is to be decided by the Irish judicial system following the final two rounds at Mondello Park last weekend.

After a very competitive season the championship hinged on the results of the very last round to decide whether Rory Butcher or Scott Malvern would be crowned champion. Basically whoever finished ahead would take the title.

After early race contact between the pair, Malvern retired from the race a few laps later and Butcher took the flag. But all was not clear cut. Each driver protested the other. Rory's protest was thrown out, but Scott's was successful and Butcher was excluded from the results.

Each driver then appealed their respective protest outcomes. The appeal against Scott's driving was denied, but Rory won his and was reinstated in the results – albeit temporarily – as this decision was subsequently appealed to the next level.

The deliberations on the above will now be held at a Motorsport Ireland Tribunal in the next few weeks. Motorsport Ireland is the Irish equivalent of the MSA.
