SILVERSTONE REVIEW

The weekend’s racing commenced with a 25 minute race for the SRCC Sports 2000 Pinto Championship resulting in a comfortable win by over 9 seconds for West Byfleet’s David Houghton, ahead of the Class B Swift DB2 of Paul Streat.

The remainder of Saturday’s schedule was taken up with a 4 hour Funcup event which saw the Track Torque Racing entry of Tim Hartland and Massimo Vignali take the lead during the second hour, which they held for the rest of the race to win by a mere 38.326 seconds over the RAM entered car of Richard Ince, Austin Kinsella, Nick Padmore and Austin Reynolds.

Sunday’s racing kicked off with a win in the Competition Car Insurance/Dunlop Ford Fiesta Championship Class C for Horsham’s Doug Nye by just under half a second from class leader Jeremy Gumbley. The combined Class A and B race saw wins for Torsten Skeen in Class A and Harry Cockhill in Class B.

James Geddie’s Porsche 997 was the class of the field in the first combined Porsche GT3 & Porsche Club Championship race with the entire field being lapped. Torquay’s Bertie Carruthers lead the rest of the field home.

The Duratec Sports 2000 honours went to championship leader Neil Burroughs. The Tadley based driver won by a very comfortable 20 second margin from Miles Griffiths who narrowly held off Rupert Russell by less than half a second.

The Porsche Club Championship Class 1 spoils went the way of Mark McAleer 1.6 seconds ahead of Jeremy Clark. The win meant the Yorkshire racer had clocked up five races on the trot.

Ex-Formula Fordster David Grady improved on his previous 4th position to win the second Fiesta Class C race by a comfortable 5 seconds over Scotsman Glynn Geddie, who was taking something of a busman’s holiday from his regular seat in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB. It was Grady’s second win since his switch from single seaters adding to his Cadwell victory earlier this month.

The Geddie name appeared at the head of the second Porsche GT3 Cup & Porsche Club Championship race -this time it was James again who repeated his first race win, but this time Josh Sadler and Stephen Ritchie managed to keep on the same lap, although someway back.

The second race for the Competition Car Insurance/Dunlop Fiesta Championship Classes A & B saw a reversal of the first race for first and second, with Ruari Fairbanks taking a very close victory from Torsten Skeen. Dartford’s Andrew Wilmot improved on an eighth place finish in the first race to take the last step on the podium. Scott Bains from Ely took the Zetec engined Class B spoils with Lee Napolitano second. Class B leader and victor in the first race Harry Cockill didn't have such a good second race recording a DNF.

Proceedings for the weekend were drawn to a close with the second Porsche Club Championship Class 1 race which was won by Marcus Carniel, the Mobberley driver coming home just 0.155seconds ahead of Kevin Harrison. Thus Mark McAleer lost his 100% win record but still managed to make the podium.
