Bolton’s Stuart Jones took a huge step towards securing the Pre 90 Avon Tyres Northern Formula Ford Championship at Donington over the weekend, with comfortable wins in his Reynard SF89 on both Saturday and Sunday of the FIA European Truck meeting,

Jones arrived at Donington with a healthy lead in the points table and extended it further following Saturday’s win from Christopher Stones and Class D’s Ian Parkington. Stuart Dix was the Class E winner.

It was a similar story in Sunday’s race, although this time Jones extended his margin of victory from four to fifteen seconds. Fellow Class C competitor Simon Hadfield was second in his ’89 Van Diemen and Christopher Stones capped a profitable weekend by making the podium again. Juiceie Bruceie and Stuart Dix took wins in classed D & E respectively.

In the Post 89 championship Martin Short came out ahead of a very tight battle on Saturday with Luke Cooper and Ben Mitchell, with just a third of a second covering the podium finishers. Championship leader John Murphy was fourth.

The second tour took place in very wet conditions and Luke Cooper put on a masterful display in his Swift SC10 to go one better than Saturday and take the chequered flag. David McArthur was next across the line and John Murphy also improved on his performance to take third.
