The BRSCC started taking registrations for the 2014 BRSCC Mazda MX-5 SuperCup less than two weeks ago and the take up so far has seen the championship continue the phenomenal growth it enjoyed during the 2013 season.

Having exhibited at the Autosport International Show at the NEC, SuperCup personnel were kept busy by those expressing an interest in competing in the 2014 championship. So with competitors now having decided on their plans for the 2014 season, the list of Mk 3 competitors opting to compete in the SuperCup is growing daily.

Amongst the initial registrations are three competitors who competed at every round in 2013, namely Mike Comber, Will Chappell and Ray Worley. With two wins in the 2013 Championship, Mike Comber will be looking to contest every race in the 2014 season and improve on his third place finish last year. “My aim this year is really simple – win the SuperCup! I know it’s not going to be easy but MCR will be going all out this year to make sure I achieve it. MCR will potentially have three cars out this year, so both on and off the track, it is going to be a very busy season.”

Another stalwart of the 2013 championship returning to improve on last year’s performance is Will Chappell. “The plan is to run in every round again this year. To beat my 4th place finish in the championship in 2013 would be nice, but with the quality of the drivers coming in, that it going to be a big ask. But my aim this year would be to get a podium finish.” Chappell, who will again run under the Concorde Motorsport banner will be expanding to a two-car team for 2014 and hope to be a position to announce a further new driver in the near future.

One of the first registration forms received was that of Ray Worley who has committed to running in the SuperCup in 2014. “It now seems a long time since I ran in the first race at Castle Combe in April last year. The Championship improved race on race last year as regards numbers and it really was a no brainer to commit to the 2014 Championship. It is really going places. My car is having a major refurb at the moment and it’s only due to the generosity of my sponsors RS Computers, Nicks Tyres and Witham Vehicle Solutions that I can pursue my hobby. Can’t wait to get started.”

The opening round of the eight meeting championship will take place on the Silverstone International Circuit on 5th/6th April 2014. The SuperCup is supported by Racing Beat Europe, Eibach, Pipercross, Jetex Exhausts, GAZ Shocks and Safety Devices.
