This time next week the Paddock at Brands Hatch will be buzzing as all the Formula Fordsters across the Duratec, Kent & Zetec categories get down to some serious testing prior to next weekend’s Formula Ford Festival.

One driver to keep a close eye on is 21 year-old Scot Kenneth Thirlwall who was declared this week as the winner of the ‘Motorsport News Road to the Festival’ competition. Motorsport News has kept a tally of points accrued by every Formula Ford racer in the UK over the season and the Haddington man topped the lot scoring 207 points. Kenneth has been very impressive in the SMRC Formula Ford Championship this year, securing the title by winning every round!

Second in the ‘Motorsport News Road to the Festival’ points table was Liverpudlian John Murphy who won the BRSCC Northern Formula Ford Post 89 Class B title as well as the Star of Anglesey crown. Third was St Helens teenager Chris Middlehurst who took the BRSCC Formula Ford championships by storm this season winning the National, Northern and Champion of Oulton titles. Along with Kenneth, Chris will certainly be a major threat to the traditionally strong Irish challenge in the Kent competition.

This year’s Festival is of course the 40th in the events colourful history. To mark the occasion the BRSCC are holding a celebration dinner on the Saturday night in the MSV Centre at Brands Hatch. Plenty of Festival ‘legends’ will be attending so it is sure to be a great evening of Festival reminisces and anecdotes. Tickets are priced at just £35 and can be booked by calling 01732 783141.

Entries are still being taken across all three Formula Ford categories.
