Fans of tin-tops and sportscars should head down to Anglesey circuit at the weekend as North Western Centre Summer Race Weekend on the 1.55 mile Coastal circuit is packed full of saloons and sportscars with sixteen races across both days.

Topping the bill will be the Toyo Tires Porsche Championship which caters for Boxsters and the old reliable 924. With a grid in the mid-twenties there will be plenty of action as it is a triple-header so there is a great haul of points on offer as the drivers start the run-in to the end of the season. In Class A (Race Boxsters) Richard Avery has Ed Hayes in hot pursuit with Nick Hull now third thanks to his consistent finishes. Jayson Flegg is starting to pull away in the Class B Boxsters (Production) and in the 924s David Jones and Karl Rossin will be trying hard to catch Simon Hawksley, with just 22 points separating the mid-table drivers Hugh Peart, Nizar El-Chamaa, Peter Smith, Philip Waters and Alastair Kirkham.

The grid in the Arrowpak Saloon & Sports Car Championship may be smaller but it won’t lack for excitement with a wide range of marques and models on display. Doug Ellwood’s 6.2 litre Marcos Mantis has to be the strong favourite but David Hinde and Andrew Robey, in their respective 3.2 litre Vectra and BMW M3, will make sure Doug has to be on top of his game. Keep an eye out for Wayne Schofield, as the former champion always extracts the maximum out of his Suzuki Cappuccino.

Anglesey regulars will be familiar with the XR Challenge, which this year has backing from Wrexham based Demon Tweeks. In addition to the regular championship, the drivers will be also be scoring points in the Champion of Anglesey Trophy. With a mixture of young, mature and very experienced drivers, there is every chance of another epic weekend of XR racing. Two drivers to watch closely are Lee Bowron and his son Ryan, who is making his racing debut. Not sure his dad will cut him any slack…..

The Alfashop Alfa Romeo Championship will pay its sixth visit to Anglesey since its first in 1998.The overall race wins will undoubtedly be fought out between the class A1 cars of Graham Seager (supercharged GTV) and Andy Robinson (156 3.2) and the A2 33 16v of Bryan Shrubb. The nimble handling of the 33 will mean that it is not left behind on the twister parts of the Coastal circuit, although the run from the Banking hairpin to Rocket, at the top of the hill, will favour the extra power of the bigger engined cars.

This will be a key weekend for the Dunlop TVR Challenge with three races and thus many points available. Tim Davis (Class A) in his 4.5 litre Tuscan is the current points leader overall ahead of Jim Walsh (Class B) and Ivor Watson (Class A), who both are also campaigning Tuscans. Leading Class C driver Mike Luck is eighth overall in his Chimeara. The last few rounds have developed into a personal duel between Tim Davis and Dean Cook’s Sagaris and both will look forward to renewing their rivalry on the Trac Mon Coastal circuit.

The BRSCC Mazda MX-5 SuperCup also begins its second half of the season at Anglesey, with a triple-header being contested over the course of the weekend. That makes the meeting key in deciding the ultimate fate of the title. The story so far has been the consistency of leader Mike Comber. Not only has he been able to string a together a succession of consecutive wins but he has also finished on the podium in every race. However, the dropped score system means that Mike isn’t home and dry just yet and David Chapman, Abbie Eaton and Frodsham’s Matt Davies will be quietly confident of reeling Comber in. The Cardiff based Mazda legend Tom Roche can’t be ruled out yet but he has a lot of catching-up to do having missed the early rounds.

You never know what kind of weather you are going to get at Anglesey, but the forecast for the weekend isn't too bad! You check it at ANGLESEY FORECAST
