WHEN SATURDAY COMES

CATEGORIES:

Tomorrow sees the first of two visits in a fortnight to Oulton Park for the officials and marshals of the BRSCC North Western Centre. A total of twelve races make up the timetable featuring Formula Fords, Mighty Minis, Sports 2000, OSS and the Scottish Mini Cooper Cup.

The Avon Tyres Northern Formula Ford Championship returns to its home circuit following the Anglesey double header last month. Young Aussie Jordan Skinner has been the star of the Post 89 show so far this season with five wins from six races. However, his closest rival Stuart Gough will be back in action tomorrow having missed the Anglesey meeting so Jordan might not get it all his way.

The Pre 90 category of Formula Ford is led by Warrington’s John Farrell. John has had a nervous wait this week to see if his entry moved up from the reserve list to the race proper. Confirmation of that only came through this morning when Ryan Dignan had to withdraw having sustained an injury playing football last night! One mans loss is another mans gain…..

Jades look likely to dominate the Itchy Feet BRSCC OSS Championship, with Graham Cole, Tony Sinclair and Jim Hutchinson the drivers to watch in Class A. This is the first year as a championship for the Open Sportscars which gives a home to all manner of fantastic cars.

Scott Kendall makes the long journey to the North West from his Fareham home as the current leader of the Super Mighty Minis. Scott has a slender five point margin from the vastly experienced Neven Kirkpatrick. Chris Morgan is still in the frame for championship honours and having won the Mighty Minis category last season he can’t be discounted.

The fight for the 2010 Mighty Minis title could be shaping up as a two way battle between Matt Pinny and Devonian Louise Inch, although Peter Tervet will argue his case strongly. Peter, who lies 15 points adrift of Louise, has been the surprise package this season, his first in the Championship.

In the Sports 2000 Duratec Championship Neil Burroughs leads from Patrick Sherrington but both will be keeping a close eye tomorrow on Mike Jenvey, who won the championship last year in his Gunn TS6. This season Mike has been helping to develop the new March but with the job now completed he is back out in his trusty steed to give Neil & Patrick a run for their money!!

In the Sports 2000 Pintos David Houghton is enjoying a successful season and goes into round 5 as the clear favourite but both Andy Mathew and Paul Streat will have something to say about that! Similarly Richard Cooke and Mike Fry have found their form this year so they could give some serious competition for the front runners.

Joining us from north of the border is the Scottish Mini Cooper Cup, on one of their two trips away from their ancestral Knockhill home. Oly Mortimer leads the three way battle for the title with a 14 point lead over Vic Covey Jnr and a further point ahead of David Sleigh.
