The Open Sportscar Series (OSS)was created in 2009 to provide a home for all prototype sports racing cars, be they open or closed top. As the name implies the regulations are kept open to attract cars of all types and engine size and also to enable the club competitors to exploit their design and engineering abilities.

Race.TV Open Sportscar Series

OSS had a very successful inaugural year in 2009 which ended at the BRSCC Championship Finals meeting at Snetterton in October. A big honour was bestowed upon the OSS competitors who were invited to compete for the prestigious Archie Scott-Brown Trophy by the BRSCC East Anglian Centre. The trophy was won in fine dominant style by Tony Sinclair in his Jade 3.

Such was the interest in the new Series that 53 competitors took part at some time during the season and this number is expected to increase for 2010. In Class A the man on form was Alan Hogg (Jade) who contested every round and only registered 2 non finishes during the whole season. Well done Alan. On many occasions though Steve Griffiths (Jade) kept him honest and the sight of the 3 litre Jades of Alan, Steve, Tony Sinclair and Shane Marshal imitating Formula Ford action for many laps at Donington was fantastic.

28 competitors took part in Class B and the wins were split between 7 of them. Matt Manderson (Chiron) was the early runner taking 4 straight class wins and at the wet opener at Silverstone was outright winner in both races. Morgan Burgess (Chiron) was another strong runner being on the podium every time he raced. Andrew Bentley (ADR) notched up 3 wins.

Surprisingly Class C was not as well supported as A and B. The star of the class was Verity Banks (ADR) with her consistent finishing on the class podium although John-Paul Ivey was dominant in the races he took part in.

So what for 2010?

The BRSCC have applied for Championship Status and have been granted “ outline permission”. Regulations have been submitted so it is wait and see with fingers crossed. So what ever the outcome OSS will be up and running for 2010 AND stronger than in 2009. Regulations and dates will be publicised here when available.

So a BIG THANK YOU to:

All of you who have supported OSS in 2009.

All of you who will be racing with us in 2010.

And finally to Nick Barnett of Race.TV who sponsored the Series in 2009 and produced two great programmes.
