CATERHAM RACE WEEKEND

26 September 2020 - 27 September 2020

The Caterham Motorsport roster gets set to touch down on its home turf, as all five championships make the trip up the road from their Dartford HQ to Brands Hatch in Kent for their penultimate weekend of the 2020 season. Competing on the Indy circuit, the short 1.2 mile layout always produces an entertaining weekend of action, and that’s practically guaranteed from the Caterham Academy, Roadsport, Seven 270R, Seven 310R and Seven UK championships. At this late stage in the season, there is a chance that any of those five titles could be settled before the weekend is through but whatever the chase, these nimble Caterhams should wind their way around this speed bowl in a rather timely manner.

Adding to the superb action throughout the weekend will be the final rounds of the Avon Tyres National & Northern Formula Ford Championships, where someone will walk away as the 2020 champion and potentially also receive the coveted British F4 prize on offer for the best placed Pro Class driver aged 25 or under. The National championship provides amazing racing and is still one of the best single seater series in the UK, as well as a key proving ground for young drivers learning their craft, while the Northern ranks see plenty of enthusiastic racers, mostly based in the North West, compete in a number of classes dedicated to different time periods of Formula Ford chassis, from the contemporary to the historic.

There’s also set to be some great tin-top action from the Production GTi Championship, an excellent cost-effective way to race a Mk2 or Mk5 VW Golf GTi and a series that typically produces some excellent door-to-door racing. A superb grid of experienced PGTi veterans coupled with some enthusiastic rookies means there’s a vast array of driving talent on display here ready to hustle one of the best hot hatches of all time against one another as they make their long-awaited first appearance of 2020.

There will also be further saloon car action courtesy of the excellent Nankang Tyre BMW Compact Cup, where Tom Griffiths heads to Kent with a mere one-point lead over triple defending champion Steven Dailly after mixed fortunes for the pair last time out at Thruxton. Ian Jones, Ben Huntley and top Masters driver Wayne Flint are all in close contention in the top five behind them, and after some thrilling races in Hampshire, more of the same is expected this weekend.

Also, keep an eye out for the brilliant sprint races set to be contested by championships from the Classic & Modern Motorsport Club’s Southern Centre, who should bring their Super Saloons, Production Saloons and Intermarque Silhouettes out to play as well.
