The fearsome Caterham Seven 420R Championship sees drivers compete in dedicated race cars powered by a Caterham tuned 2.0L Ford Duratec engine, coupled to a Sadev six-speed sequential race gearbox and full race chassis. We don’t believe there is a faster car out there that doesn’t make use of slick or wings…
The championship typically features a grid of high-quality drivers (which included seven Caterham champions with a combined eleven titles in 2019), most of whom have worked their way up through the Caterham ranks. This ensures that the top level of Caterham racing is amongst some of the most exciting on offer in the UK.
Caterham’s industry-leading trackside support team is optionally available to drivers, whilst hospitality in the Caterham race centre is provided all weekend. Professional team support is also permitted in this championship, with several outfits running multiple car operations on any given race weekend.
There are typically fourteen races spread across seven doubleheader weekends, with six taking place on some of the UK’s best circuits and one held overseas at a top European circuit. For 2020, the championship takes to the Zandvoort GP circuit in the Netherlands shortly after the Dutch Grand Prix. Previous European venues the championship has competed at include the Nurburgring, Zolder and Spa-Francorchamps. Qualifying at each race weekend also features a SuperPole shootout after the main session with the top 10 battling for pole position in Race 1. Bonus points are awarded to the top 3 with pole getting 3 points, 2nd place awarded 2 points and 3rd place scoring 1 point.
Created in 2009, the close control of the regulations (as with all Caterham racing) coupled to a car described as “perfection” to drive by some and a specification engineered for long life has made the Seven 420R Championship a hugely popular and highly regarded race series.
