ALAN JENKINS RECEIVES BERT LAMKIN MEMORIAL SALVER

BRSCC Open Sportscar Series co-ordinator and board member Alan Jenkins was presented with the Bert Lamkin Memorial Salver for 2015 at last Saturday night's Club Championship Awards. Alan was selected for the award for his hard work and commitment in publically promoting the interests of the club and his championship.

Speaking about Jenkins before he received the accolade, BRSCC Chairman Bernard Cottrell said: "Alan first started out with us as a marshal way back in 1972 at Thruxton, which was followed by visits to circuits up and down the country as well as across the pond for Grand Prix and club meeting at venues such as Long Beach, Laguna Seca and Road America. His progression through motorsport has seen him hold positions such as an Examining Observer for marshals, Senior Event Official, Clerk of the Course and also as Hill Controller for both Swansea and Brecon Motor Clubs in hillclimbs.

Alan has also been instrumental in the current training of up and coming marshals, pioneering two influential programmes and several training videos alongside Mike Skelton, which have helped set the standard which still remains relevant to this day.

His first break into co-ordinating came with the Welsh Sports and Saloon Car Championship where his hard work has seen grids grow substantially to their current levels of 30 cars plus potential reserves. Turning his hand to our ever increasingly popular Open Sportscar Series with Steve Griffiths, it has not only become one of the fastest growing championships on our roster, but also as one of the fastest in terms of outright speed with several lap records having fallen by the wayside, all thanks to his and Steve’s efforts.

Finally, he’s known as a demon for finding restaurant and hotel deals, so if you need any tips I suggest you speak to him!"

Alan was well supported on the night by friends and competitors from OSS and said of the award on the Championship's Facebook page: "I am deeply honoured, extremely proud and in total shock to be awarded this superb trophy. I am very humbled to think that back in 1972, my only ambition was to just become a marshal. Since then I have been invited to work on many projects. Therefore many thanks to everyone I have worked with over the last 40 plus years."
