WELCOME BACK PIERS!

Forty six years after first racing with the BRSCC, Piers Townsend will return in his MGV8 this season.

Piers Townsend will return to the BRSCC fold this season at the wheel of his trusty MGV8 in the Dunlop TVR Challenge, which is throwing its doors open to the highly modified MGs in a welcome and spectacular addition to the Challenge’s Invitation Class.

The experienced Piers, who turns 66 years old at the end of this month, first raced a 1928 Austin 7 Chummy at a VSCC meeting at Silverstone in 1965. The following season Piers joined the BRSCC for the first time and campaigned an Austin Mini 850. He also enjoyed one outing in a Jim Russell Lotus 20 at Snetterton in which he came a very creditable second.

Piers then raced a variety of machinery, including a Morgan +4 SLR and a Mk1 Cortina with Daimler 4.5 litre V8 engine, up until 1970 when work, marriage, children and financial influences saw him take rather a long sabbatical until 1996 when he returned to competitive racing in an MGB GT.

Since then Piers has started in excess of 180 races, mainly in an MG, and has enjoyed the usual mixture of triumph and despair. Now some 46 years after first racing with the BRSCC, Piers has renewed his Racing Membership of the Club and is very much looking forward to a season in the Dunlop TVR Challenge where the MGV8s have found a home in the Invitation Class after a change to the BCV8 regulations prohibited MGV8s racing in the championship.
