Fantastic hot & sunny weather greeted the BRSCC South Western Centre officials and marshals plus the competitors from four championships when they rolled up to the Carmarthenshire coast on Saturday morning. While not having the glamour of Ascot or Epsom, the female competitors in the Euro Saloons and particularly the Alfa Romeo Championship turned the meeting into as good a 'Ladies Day' as you will get!

The meeting officially began on Saturday afternoon with a mixture of qualifying, practice and three races. Proceedings started started 5 minutes late due to an invasion of wasps at the Post 3!

Neil Smith’s 156 predictably won both BRSCC Alfashop Alfa Romeo races but the real story was written by the chasing women behind him. Sarah Heels took third overall in both races to claim Class C wins, while Louise West and Emma Karwacki were double winners in Classes B & E respectively. Mel Healey wasn’t on her best form but 7th & 8th place finishes was enough for her to retain the outright championship lead.

The Ginetta G50’s of Keith Butcher & David Krayem dominated the opening Euro Saloons & Sportscar race but they failed to finish after an incident in the opening lap of the second outing leaving the way clear for Barry Squibb’s Mitsubishi Evo 9 to take the chequered flag ahead of Ilsa Cox and Derek Hale, who was also third in the first race.

Local hero Graham Cole put in an impressive performance in both OSS Championship races. The Caerphilly based driver won the first race and took the final podium spot in the second one, behind Tony Sinclair and Andrew Kimpton. Altay Ali’s Radical PR6 was second in race one just ahead of Ginger Marshall.

In the Welsh Sports & Saloon Car Championship the podium for the first two races were identical with Dom Evans beating David Krayem and Neil Watts. Evans made it three in three with Watts moving up a place and Jann Mardenborough taking third.

The meeting concluded with a free ‘All Comers’ race, which raised £150 for the South Wales Air Ambulance. Dom Evans and Neil Watts continued their good form to finish first and second with Brian Cox completing the formalities.

One of the highlights of Sunday’s action was a Formula 1 demonstration of the 1991 Lotus (Ex Nakajima) by Steve Griffiths which took place during the lunchbreak and was appreciated by all.
