MAZDA MX-5 INTERNATIONAL CHALLENGE CONFIRMED FOR ZANDVOORT IN JULY
The BRSCC is delighted to confirm that the previously announced plans for the Mazda MX-5 International Challenge have been approved and will go ahead at Circuit Park Zandvoort in the Netherlands on Sunday, July 12th, 2020.
After the initial announcement a couple of weeks ago, sufficient interest from drivers surveyed was enough for the contest to be given the green light, meaning that both UK and European Mazda MX-5 competitors will be given the chance to race on the newly updated Zandvoort GP circuit just weeks after Formula 1 returns in May for the 2020 Heineken Dutch Grand Prix, the first F1 race to be held in the country since 1985.
The Mazda MX-5 International Challenge will consist of a 30-minute practice session, a 20-minute qualifying session, and two 20-minute races all in one day. Competitors will be split into one of three classes:
Mk1 Class – open to any and all Mk1 generation Mazda MX-5 championship race cars, with Avon XV7, Hankook V120 evo2, Davanti DX390, and Interstate Dutch Max5 Cup tyres permitted. Dutch Max5 Cup competitors will be extended an invitation to compete in this event.
Mk3 Class – open to any and all Mk3 generation Mazda MX-5 championship race cars (1.8-litre & 2.0-litre), with Avon ZZR & Nankang NS2-R tyres permitted
Invitation Class – open to any Mazda that falls outside of these classes on any tyre, at the club’s discretion e.g. Mk2 & Mk4 Mazda MX-5s, Mazda RX-8s etc.
Awards will be given out to top finishers in both the Mk1 & Mk3 classes.
Entry to the International Challenge will be £335.00, which includes registration and BRSCC membership for this meeting only, and is open to all drivers that hold a National level racing license (formerly known as National A) or higher. To enter this event, you can do so by one of the following methods:
Existing BRSCC Mazda MX-5 competitors – You will be able to select and enter the International Challenge by logging into the BRSCC’s RevUp online entry system and following the same process as a regular race entry. If you get stuck at any point, you can contact BRSCC HQ for assistance.
Non-BRSCC Mazda MX-5 competitors – If you haven’t raced in either of our Mazda MX-5 series before, or you haven’t done so for a while, you can enter the International Challenge by filling out the following entry form – https://brscc.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/EF-Mazda-International-Challenge.pdf and return it via e-mail to entries@brscc.co.uk.
There will also be a special rate for Stena Line ferries from Harwich to Hook of Holland available for competitors that are looking to book and arrange travel plans. To obtain this discount, simply contact Stena Line and quote BRSCC when booking.
