JOHN GREGORY SMITH (1944-2019)

The BRSCC is saddened to learn of the recent passing of John Gregory Smith, a long standing and much respected clerk of the course within British club and international motorsport.

Alongside clerking duties for the BRSCC and many other major racing clubs across the country, John was also a steward and a marshal, showing that he was dedicated and willing to contribute to motorsport as a volunteer on all levels. Predominantly, John worked as a permanent clerk and race director for HSCC, as well as race director for Masters Historic Racing to assist in gaining their organising club status once again.

He was also co-founder of the 360 Motor Club and race directed and clerked for them until health problems forced him to scale back his efforts. John also clerked and directed many of the UK’s major historic events including Silverstone Classic and the Masters Historic Festival during his time. Alongside all of this, John was a trustee of the Motorsport Safety Fund for a number of years too.

The BRSCC wishes to extend its sincerest thoughts, best wishes and condolences to John’s family, friends and colleagues at this time. He will be sadly missed by the motorsport community.
