Camberley-based racing driver Tom Sharp is returning to the Avon Tyres British GT Championship in 2014, once again teaming up with Colin White in their IDL Racing with CWS Ginetta G55 GT3.

Sharp returns to the prestigious British motor-racing championship as it prepares for its biggest season in recent times, having firmly established himself as a series front-runner during his first full British GT campaign last season.

Although the final race results didn’t match the team’s potential at times, 2012 Michelin Ginetta GT Supercup vice-champion Sharp showcased his talent with a number of impressive drives, including running third overall in the flagship Silverstone 500 event.

While the team’s Ginetta suffered a number of reliability problems over the campaign, the car showed its promise as it took them to the overall race lead at Brands Hatch and a breakthrough top ten finish in the final round of the season at Donington Park.

While Sharp and the team considered a change of machinery for 2014, hard work from the team and Ginetta over the winter has seen a number of improvements brought to the car, culminating in a hugely positive test earlier this month.

Sharp, who holds the record as the most successful driver in the Michelin Ginetta GT Supercup with twenty race victories, hopes the continuity of team, drivers and car will be the key to a successful 2014 season.

“It’s great to be back,” said Sharp. “The Avon Tyres British GT Championship is where I want to be, and without a doubt it will be the most competitive season to date. For sure, 2013 was a difficult year for us, but a lot of lessons have been learnt and we are all better off for the experience.

“The car has come a long way over the winter and I have every confidence it will be competitive and we can run at the front of the field this season. The guys at Ginetta have done an impressive job and I can't wait to start testing at the end of the month."
