BRSCC to present the 2022 Student Motorsport Challenge at MsD LIVE 2021
Following a period of planning and development by Student Motorsport, the BRSCC are delighted to announce the launch of the new for 2022 Student Motorsport Challenge, an intra-series within the BRSCC Nankang Tyre CityCar Cup Championship.
Student Motorsport is a membership network dedicated to careers and educational development within motorsport and was founded by JP Latham.
The Student Motorsport Challenge is an intra-series providing colleges and universities access to the industry eco-system and relevant opportunities through a sustainable, meaningful and industry-relevant project.
Student-based teams will be given the opportunity to compete on and off-track against like-minded individuals and on-track alongside general championship competitors. Using the budget-friendly Peugeot 107, Citroën C1 and Toyota Aygo built to the CityCar Cup regulations, teams will be immersed in a broad range of activities and tasks providing an unprecedented opportunity to gain the employability skills, industry knowledge and the understanding required to operate successfully in an ever-changing and increasingly competitive environment.
As well as being entered into the CityCar Cup Championship, colleges and universities will also be competing for outright honours in the Student Motorsport Challenge and a variety of on and of-track award categories such as Team Professionalism, Car Preparation, Media and Commercial Activities.
The Student Motorsport team and BRSCC will be presenting a CityCar Cup Championship race car in garages 24 and 25 with support from students of West Suffolk College, the first team to declare an entry for the 2022 season, and will be offering advice and information to potential competitors and educators.
The BRSCC’s head of Formulae Development Greg Graham: “MsD Live presents the BRSCC and Student Motorsport with an excellent opportunity to showcase our CityCar Cup race car and the Student Motorsport Challenge in a live environment, and we’re very much looking forward to meeting representatives and students from colleges and universities to discuss their future involvement.
The BRSCC Nankang Tyre CityCar Cup Championship was conceptualised with a goal of introducing new and young drivers into motorsport, and our partnership with Student Motorsport is a key factor in the further development of those aims.”
Founder of Student Motorsport JP Latham: “We are proud to be working alongside the BRSCC in supporting new people entering into sustainable motorsport. Furthermore, we’re working hard to raise awareness of the vitally important work that colleges and universities are doing in motorsport education and how they are producing the next generation of motorsport professionals.
“We’re thrilled to be achieving this through the introduction of the Student Motorsport Challenge 2022 and we’re going to be at MsD LIVE 2021 to support our existing new entrants / teams in the series.
“We’re also going to be meeting educators and students interested in the Challenge and will be giving students from West Suffolk College some hands-on experience of running our Challenge car throughout the two days which is being used for passenger laps around the famous Silverstone circuit.”
