BRUNNING CLAIMS VICTORY FOR BAD OBSESSION MOTORSPORT IN CITYCAR CUP AT SILVERSTONE
Another circuit and another ten CityCars out at Silverstone following a fantastic race at Cadwell Park. The reaction to this new, affordable race series had been phenomenal and we are so pleased to have such a great group of cars and drivers with us for the inaugural season.
Nic Grindrod topped the timesheets to take P1 in qualifying, followed by Richard Brunning and Ben Sharpe rounding out the top 3.
What a race we had from all of our drivers, with everyone finishing with the biggest of smiles! Despite being surrounded by quicker cars, the CityCar Cup drivers maintained their composure and focused on their own racing. It’s great to see these little cars keeping up with almost everything else through the corners, however with 68bhp it’s never surprising to see them being swamped on the straight bits. With a full single class series awaiting the drivers in 2021, and our first stand-alone races scheduled for Croft Circuit on 31st October this year, we and they will be able to fully demonstrate what CityCar Cup racing is all about.
After initially running at the front of the pack, Nic Grindrod chose to pit under safety car conditions, whilst a number of the others stayed out. This decision, unfortunately, dropped him well back in the race positions, and although he fought as hard as he could to work through the field, he couldn’t make up the time lost. Taking full advantage of Nic’s bad luck, Richard Brunning got his head down in his Bad Obsession Motorsport Citroen C1 and drove faultlessly to take his maiden CityCar Cup win. He was closely followed home by Liam Browning in another C1. This is Liam’s first season racing and if you’re going to finish your second ever race, you might as well finish on the podium! Tim Evans put in another strong performance to take P3 on the CityCar Cup podium in his Toyota Aygo.
