CITYCAR CUP PREPARES FOR EXCITING OPENING WEEKEND WITH INCREDIBLE NOVICE DRIVER ENTRY
After conceptualising, developing and launching the series through 2020 and now with over 50 cars already built or in development, the BRSCC is looking forward to a fantastic first full season of racing from the Nankang Tyre CityCar Cup Championship!
Although 2020 was a difficult and complex year due to the health crisis, the formulae development team at the BRSCC were so confident that CityCar Cup could be a success, that all the stops were pulled out to enable it to be introduced to the UK motorsport community.
Commenting ahead of the first 2021 race meeting, Greg Graham BRSCC’s head of formulae development commented, “The main driving forces behind our introduction of CityCar Cup to the marketplace, were a genuine desire to develop a series that would be attractive to new racers, one that offered ease of access and the lowest possible cost of entry whilst also delivering a true “race car” experience. By getting all of those things as right as possible, the level of involvement we’re seeing from people who have never raced before has been fantastic, and it proves that the desire for motorsport participation from new drivers is still very much alive”.
Prior to the first 2021 Nankang Tyre CityCar Championship rounds at Donington Park on 9th May, the BRSCC are delighted to report that not only is the grid almost at maximum capacity, but over half of the racers (21 of them at the last count) taking to the circuit are first-time race licence holders!
As a reward for all of these new CityCar Cup Championship racers, the BRSCC have introduced a Novice Racer Trophy award into their race programme, with the highest placed novice racer at each round being awarded a trophy, as well as an end of season award for the highest positioned Novice Racer in the final championship standings.
The BRSCC would like to thank every single driver and team who has chosen to become involved in the Nankang Tyre CityCar Cup Championship, and also give special thanks to SW Motorsports, Essential Racing, Nankang Tyre UK, GAZ Shocks, Powerflex Bushes, Motordrive Seats, Hybrid Tune, Run Your Fleet, Mission Motorsport and Bad Obsession Motorsport for their valued support.
