About the DONINGTON PARK RACE WEEKEND

Our first of two visits of the 2020 season to Donington Park in Leicestershire comes as a mid-summer race weekend filled with a superb mix of sprint and long distance racing to keep the spectators entertained!

Heading up Saturday’s action will be the Fun Cup Championship, one of the most popular and best loved endurance championships in the UK. 4 hours of non-stop intense racing is in store here with pit stops and driver changes adding further to the endurance element and ensuring that victory is never certain until the checkered flag is waved. The unique nature of the Fun Cup car means that both novices and experienced drivers can both get to grips with it very quickly, meaning that the mixture of talent on track at any given time usually helps to produce a typically thrilling race.

Adding the thrill factor all weekend should be both of the BRSCC’s well-supported Mazda MX-5 series. The Mazda MX-5 Championship and Mazda MX-5 SuperCup are both pressing on with the second half of their seasons by this point with championship contenders becoming clearer at this stage. Some 80+ MX-5s (both Mk1 and Mk3 models) should descend on Donington to contest the nine races that are in store, and each one will be as exciting as the last, so make sure you’re in place for all of their encounters on both Saturday and Sunday.

More MX-5s will be present on top of that courtesy of the Mazda MX-5 Trophy, showcasing the current ND model in something of a development year for the new car ahead of its potential 2021 programme. They will be seen on the grid of the incredibly popular Clubsport Trophy, which held its second race here at the end of 2019 and produced a sold out 40 car grid! From BMWs and Civics to MX-5s, MINIs, Fiestas and more, this grid will produce an incredible mix of machinery include a couple of unique and rare cars that will produce one or two talking points along the way.

Single seaters are catered for by the Avon Tyres National Formula Ford Championship where young and budding racing stars will be plying and developing their craft on track in front of your eyes, and to add to it there’s also an away round for their regional counterparts in the Northern & Super Classic Formula Ford Championship too. Saloon car racing lovers will have both the Production GTi Championship for Mk2 and Mk5 VW Golf GTis and the ST-XR Challenge for a variety of Ford XR models to enjoy, the latter appearing in their one and only away weekend of the season.
