MAJOR BOOST FOR FIESTA JUNIORS

CATEGORIES:

Fiesta Juniors now have 18 licence holders raring to go.

It has been a very positive few days for the BRSCC’s Ford Fiesta Junior Championship with three pieces of encouraging news. Firstly, Ford Racing UK's Kevin Shortis announced that he had secured backing for the championship from Motorsport News, which means the Fiesta Juniors will receive a massive boost in coverage in the weekly motorsport title.

Secondly, Shortis confirmed that the 2012 Motorsport News Fiesta Junior Champion will receive a full test day in a Touring Car Ford Focus to be run by Kent based BTCC team, Motorbase Performance, which is headed by Dave Bartrum. The many young drivers who will be striving to lift the title in this first full year of the championship will eagerly anticipate the prize.

Thirdly, the championship had a test and ARDS day at Castle Combe yesterday, which was expertly organised by Andrew Crighton of Advent Motorsport. Five young drivers took and passed their ARDS test. The five in question, Louis Millar, Austen Waite, Aiden Moffat, Aiden Nippress & James Manning, now take the number of Fiesta Junior licence holders to 18.

All five were grateful for the expert guidance and help received from Race School Director Alan Cooper and his team. The instructors were very impressed with the application, determination and level of expertise shown by the young Fiesta Junior hopefuls.

Taking part in some Fiesta Junior testing ahead of the opening double-header at Silverstone on 7th/8th April were Freddie Lee, Charlie Ladell, Jack Mitchell and James Bourne, all of whom had already passed their ARDS test.

Also attending the test day at Combe to show their support were BRSCC Chairman Bernard Cottrell and Competitions Director Drew Furlong. Bernard was pleased with what he saw, “The support of Motorsport News & Motorbase Performance is a real shot in the arm for Fiesta Juniors as is another five young drivers gaining their licences. I have been really impressed with skills & maturity of all the young drivers here today. It certainly bodes well for the future”.

In addition to Andrew Crighton at Advent, thanks go to the other participating teams – Ian Cowie Racing, Daniels Motorsport and WDE Motorsport, and of course the staff at Castle Combe Circuit who helped make this day so successful.
