SIR JACK BRABHAM 1926 – 2014

CATEGORIES:

The Club was saddened to hear this morning that Vice President, Sir Jack Brabham, had passed away at his home in Australia, aged 88.

Sir Jack enjoyed a long and successful career, claiming the Formula One World championship three times, the last of which in 1966 he won at the wheel of a car he had designed and built himself, the Brabham BT-19.

After a successful career in his native Australia, Sir Jack moved to the UK in 1955 and soon joined forces with the Cooper Car Company, run by former BRSCC President, John Cooper. Sir Jack enjoyed a successful spell with Cooper before leaving to set up his own team in 1962.

Sir Jack retired from racing in 1970 at the age of 43 and returned to Australia, having sold the Brabham team to Bernie Ecclestone. In total, he won 14 Grand Prix and was knighted in 1979.

The BRSCC would like to pass on its sincerest condolences to Sir Jack’s wife, Lady Margaret, and sons Geoff, Gary and David and their families.
