The Motorsport Safety Fund has confirmed that Andy Mellor will be the guest speaker at 2013 Watkins Lecture, which will take place on Friday 11th January at the NEC, Birmingham.

Andy Mellor is the Vice President of the FIA Safety Commission and Technical advisor to the FIA Institute. Andy has been working for the FIA Institute for Motor Sport Safety and Sustainability continuously since its formation in 2004, with his work spread across a range of industry and technical programmes worldwide relating to circuits, cars and driver’s equipment.

Each year, he presents findings from the research programmes to the countries represented at the FIA Annual General Assembly, and his presentations are always visually outstanding in demonstrating the safety research being undertaken and how the changes as a result can further improve the high safety standards already inherent in our sport. You certainly don’t need to be a technical or scientific expert to appreciate the scale and explanation of Andy’s work and his presentations are universally acclaimed.

The Lecture, which is on the second day of Autosport International, is named after Professor Sid Watkins who made the very first presentation back in 1998, Of course it will be a very poignant occasion, being the first lecture since the Professor passed away in September.

The previous speakers/interviewees have been: Professor Sid Watkins (twice), Sir Jackie Stewart OBE, Max Mosley, Niki Lauda, David Richards CBE, Dr Terry Trammell, Martin Brundle, Ross Brawn, Bernie Ecclestone, Malcolm Wilson, Ron Dennis CBE, Christian Horner, Adrian Newey (twice) and Jonathan Neale – a veritable who’s who of world motorsport.

The Lecture is primarily for the benefit of those directly involved in the field of marshalling and entry is strictly by ticket only. Ticket application forms are available in the latest edition of the Motorsport Safety Fund’s bi-annual newsletter – The Marshal, which can be downloaded here. Alternatively, tickets can be applied for by sending an SAE to: Watkins Lecture, Motorsport Safety Fund, PO Box 200, Sevenoaks TN15 8WZ.
