The Motorsport Safety Fund has confirmed that the 2012 Watkins Lecture will comprise of McLaren supremo Martin Whitmarsh in conversation with Maurice Hamilton.
Having survived constant interrogation by Eddie Jordan and his BBC TV team-mates throughout this season, popular McLaren Team Principal Martin Whitmarsh is likely to regard a conversation with Maurice Hamilton for the 2012 Motorsport Safety Fund ‘Watkins Lecture’ as a bit of light relief. For the audience, however, it will no doubt be extremely insightful.
The event will take place at 11.15am on Friday, January 13 at the Autosport International Show, NEC Birmingham. The lecture is named after Professor Sid Watkins – F1’s safety pioneer – who made the very first presentation, and is a regular highlight of the Autosport International Show, attracting over 400 delegates per event. The previous presenters/interviewees have been: Professor Sid Watkins (twice), Sir Jackie Stewart OBE, Max Mosley, Niki Lauda, David Richards CBE, Dr Terry Trammell, Martin Brundle, Ross Brawn, Bernie Ecclestone, Malcolm Wilson, Ron Dennis CBE, Christian Horner and Adrian Newey (twice) – a veritable who’s who of world motorsport.
The lecture is primarily for the benefit of those directly involved in the field of marshalling and entry is strictly by ticket only. Ticket application forms are available in the latest edition of the Motorsport Safety Fund’s bi-annual newsletter – The Marshal, which can be downloaded here.
