SNETTERTON SET FOR EAST ANGLIAN CENTRE OPENER
The BRSCC East Anglian Centre get their season underway at Snetterton this weekend with a two-day meeting on the Snetterton 300 circuit. The twenty one-race schedule features the three Ma5da Racing championships, the Logson Porsche Championship, OSS, Dunlop Fiestas & Fiesta Juniors.
After the morning qualifying sessions, the Ma5da MX150Rs will get the afternoon race programme underway with a fifteen-minute blast. The 150Rs are still building up their numbers so the MX5 Mk1s help fill the grid, while getting in some practice for their races. 2011 Champion Tom Roche is the man who heads up the points table following the opening rounds at Silverstone earlier this month, with James Blake-Baldwin and Brian Chandler tucked in just behind him.
Chrissy Palmer was the form driver in the MX5 Cup at Silverstone although Jordan Stilp and Luke Herbert weren’t far behind and they are the top three in the fledgling points table. All three will line-up on the grid tomorrow to renew their rivalry.
The Logson Porsche Championship will enjoy the first of their ‘triple-header’ meetings this weekend and if the action is anything like their season opener at Oulton Park then the Snetterton fans are in for a treat. Gerry Taylor stamped his authority all over the Boxster class and will be out to repeat the trick on what is his home circuit, but he will face stiff competition from the likes of Richard Sykes, Ric Styrin and Dave Bearman. In the 924 class, Alistair Kirkham was unbeatable at Oulton and the smart money would be on him to continue his dominance at Snetterton.
The BRSCC OSS Championship open their season at Snetterton with a double header and champion Tony Sinclair is chasing a hat trick of Archie Scott Brown Trophy wins. In his Jade 3, the Merstham man has won the prestigious trophy, which commemorates the life of the courageous Scottish driver from the 1950’s, two seasons running.
Both the Dunlop Ford Fiesta Championship and the Motorsport News Fiesta Junior Championship are also on the scheduled with a double-header each. David Elsom (Si) and Jason Cooper (ST) laid down their markers for the season winning both races in the season opener at Silverstone, but as ever with Fiesta racing the competition is ferocious.
The Fiesta Juniors are building up their numbers and nine drivers will be on parade at Snetterton. Freddie Lee, son of Barry of stock car fame, and Charles Ladell won a round apiece at Silverstone three weeks ago but all the drivers are in contention, including British Junior Rallycross champion James ‘JJ’ Ross.
