ALFA GIRLS SCORE WELL AT SILVERSTONE

CATEGORIES:

The BRSCC Alfashop Alfa Romeo Championship has a strong group of women drivers at the moment and three of them – Sarah Heels, Christina Holley and Mel Healey – all finished on their class podiums at Silverstone last weekend. Christina was driving the 75 3 litre owned by Chris Snowdon and enjoyed a very strong race, finishing 5th overall and 3rd in Class A. For most of the 20 minute race, Sarah Heels (156) was very close to eventual winner Andy Inman but was passed on the final lap by championship leader Paul Buckley. Nonetheless she was delighted with her best ever result and was later awarded the Alfa "Driver of the Day" award. Mel Healey wasn't able to repeat her Castle Combe win but a 3rd in class was enough to take her to a clear lead in the Class D points table.

Overall race winner was Tim Lewis with his supercharged Alfasud Sprint who opened up a 20 second lead over runner up Roger Evans (GTV 3.8) following a period under the Safety Car. There was a race-long duel for the final place on the podium between the Class C GTV 3 litres of Kevin Evans and Graham Seager, the two cars finishing in that order. Neil Smith (33 16v) took Class D after a battle with Paul Plant's similar car although this was marred by contact on more than one occasion. Paul retired on the penultimate lap, leaving 2nd in class to Gethin Llewellyn. Tim Lewis took a new outright Alfa Romeo lap record.

The next round is at Rockingham on Sunday, July 19th. For more information on the Championship visit : www.alfaracer.com
