REJUVENATED BRSCC FIESTA JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP REACHES 14 REGISTERED DRIVERS AHEAD OF 2020 SEASON
The BRSCC Fiesta Junior Championship racing with MRF Tyres is set to begin its 2020 season revitalised and rejuvenated after it was confirmed at the Autosport International Racing Car Show at the NEC in Birmingham that the series has reached 14 registered drivers, confirming the positive signs shown over the past few months.
Thanks to the hard work and effort from the BRSCC and its Fiesta Junior coordination team, the championship has created something of a renaissance after the club ran two successful Sampler Sessions at Brands Hatch and Donington Park during the 2019 season, where potential and prospective drivers gained the chance to drive a Ford Fiesta ST150 junior race car on track during a race weekend. As a result, this has led to a superb influx of new and returning drivers that look set to populate the grid at the season-opening rounds at Silverstone International on March 21/22 2020.
Of those returning from last season, the two familiar names will be Joseph Loake and Alfie Glenie, two drivers which finished second and third in the points standings respectively in 2019. Loake debuted at Pembrey and went on to pick up five race wins in the second half of the season, while Glenie made steady progress as the campaign rolled on, achieving a personal best result of 2nd place at Pembrey for his efforts.
A large portion of the 2020 registrations come from new drivers looking to make their junior circuit racing debuts this season. From karting, Fiesta Junior debutants are set to include Junior Subaru racer Joe Knight and ROK Cup Superfinal competitor Dylan Hotchin, while the junior short oval racing scene brings forward brother and sister Ministox duo George and Briannie Davis. Mitch Marie will also be another new driver this season , as he is set to take the first steps of his junior racing career in March too. More drivers have also confirmed their registrations and will be publically announced over the coming days and weeks.
Speaking of his delight at the progress made by the championship, BRSCC chairman Peter Daly stated “The hard work and effort produced by all those associated with the club and the Fiesta Junior paddock that have been involved in this project has been exceptional. The championship is on course to enjoy an excellent 2020 season and I give thanks to everyone who has played their part in attracting the next generation of junior racing stars. I’m excited to meet them all at the opening rounds at Silverstone and look forward to ensuring the Club continues working towards increasing our entry numbers during the rest of the off-season and across the 2020 campaign.”
