DOUBLE R & CARLIN ANNOUNCE LATEST DRIVERS FOR 2020 BRITISH F4 SEASON

The latest confirmed drivers for the 2020 British F4 season were confirmed this week as Double R and Carlin added strong young talent to their line-ups for the season ahead.

Caspar Stevenson, the young Ginetta Junior racer that won the inaugural British F4 Scholarship and the prize to the value of £35,000, has used that investment wisely to join Double R Racing for the season, becoming their first confirmed driver for 2020. Caspar finished in sixth in the overall Ginetta Junior standings last season, collecting nine podiums along the way and showing promise all throughout.

Speaking of his signing, Stevenson said “I am extremely excited to be racing in British F4 this year with Double R and Argenti. Double R have a proven track record in this championship and I hope to add to their long list of wins. Off the back of winning the inaugural Scholarship last year, I am very confident and can’t wait for the red lights to go out at Round 1.”

Carlin, the most successful British F4 team to date, rounded up their line-up for the season ahead with two signing this week in the form of Christian Mansell and Zak O’Sullivan to complete their four-car assault for 2020.

Mansell, who also took part in the Scholarship day with Carlin, hails from Australia and graduates to circuit racing and single-seaters after competing in the FIA Karting European Championship, WSK Euro Series and the Australian Karting Championship with promising results. He also has experience of the Mygale chassis, having contested two rounds of the Australian F4 series last year at Philip Island and finishing inside the top ten several times on both visits.

Mansell feels confident he’s made the right choice of team, stating “I tested with a few other teams, but this Carlin car feels really good to me and I feel like it really suits my driving style.  You can’t just have a good car though, everything around you has to feel right. I think it’s really important to feel comfortable in an environment. You’ve got to spend the year with these guys; you have to have a good connection. Everyone gets on so well here but at the same time, everyone is super serious about the job they have to do. I’m really looking forward to the season ahead.”

Carlin also confirmed the signing of Zak O’Sullivan, who joins the team and switches to single-seaters after clinching the Ginetta Junior Rookie Championship last season, the youngest ever driver to do so, and finishing runner up in the overall standings. Now following in the footsteps of Lando Norris and Kiern Jewiss, two drivers who were also Ginetta Junior champions and went on to win the British F4 title, Zak will be gunning to emulate them in 2020. Should he end up running the #31, he will take on a number which has been worn by Lando Norris, Max Fewtrell and Zane Maloney, all of whom have been British F4 champions.

O’Sullivan says he already feels at home with the Carlin team, but knows he has a lot to learn this season, saying ““I will be a rookie again next year but I hope I can develop quickly and get some good results for the team. I will start testing in earnest in February and I’m really looking forward to the challenge ahead. I’m not complacent and I’m certainly not making any predictions. It will be tough and competitive and I will have to work hard to achieve success. Working with Carlin and Kokoro Driver Performance, I have the ideal framework to progress. It’s now up to me.”

Both Mansell and O’Sullivan join FEED Racing France winner Marijn Kremers from the Netherlands and the previously unannounced Matias Zagazeta from Peru in their four-car line-up for this season.
