BRSCC CROWNS CHAMPIONS AT 2019 CHAMPIONSHIP AWARDS DINNER DANCE

The British Racing & Sports Car Club enjoyed a superb evening of celebration as many of its 2019 champions and trophy recipients made their way to the Crowne Plaza hotel in Stratford-upon-Avon for the annual Championship Awards & Dinner Dance this past Saturday.

Around 300 guests were in attendance for the awards, which were hosted by motorsport commentator Andy McEwan, to see many drivers from the previous season enjoy their moment in the spotlight after a hard year’s racing to earn their success. Notable drivers in attendance included British GT champions Graham Davidson (GT3), Tom Canning & Ash Hand (GT4), TCR UK champion James Turkington and Alice Powell who finished 3rd in the inaugural W Series season.

BRSCC chairman Peter Daly gave his annual address, praising the hard work of the club’s marshals, officials, and volunteers, along with stressing the importance of volunteers in motorsport and the role they play in ensuring that the club’s motorsport activities run as smoothly and efficiently as possible. In addition, he also commended the efforts made by series such as the Mazda MX-5 Championship and Nankang Tyres BMW Compact Cup for producing some of the biggest and best-supported grids in both the portfolio and in British club motorsport, as well as the work put in to revitalize the Fiesta Junior Championship to allow it to reach 17 registered drivers ahead of the new season which begins in March.

There were also the annual special awards that were presented to their deserving recipients, with the main accolade being the BRSCC John Nicol Trophy that went to the innovative and ground-breaking W Series championship, with CEO Catherine Bond Muir collecting the trophy on their behalf. Long-standing BRSCC Midlands Centre volunteer Matthew Greenwood was chosen to receive the Bert Lamkin Memorial Salver for his hard work over 2019 and the years prior, while the special Henry Ford Trophy commissioned by Ford Motor Company was awarded to British F4 coordinator Eve Lake-Grange for her incredible spirit and will power to continue her role whilst battling a serious illness. Former competitions director Dominic Ostrowski was also given special recognition on the night for his efforts in working for the Club for over 25 years after he left his post towards the end of 2019.

Entertainment was also provided by the superb band Hit The Dance Floor, who performed for our guests late into the night with some superb music. There were also two special guests featured throughout the hotel, with the British GT GT4 title-winning Aston Martin Vantage GT4 of Ashley Hand and Tom Canning and the Caterham 420R race car of Gordon Sawyer, who will be racing it this season, on display for guests to enjoy.

Many thanks to everyone who attended on the night and we’re looking forward to seeing you back on track this season throughout 2020!
