BRIAN JONES (1935 – 2021)

It is with great sadness and heartbreak that the BRSCC learns and reports the passing of the great Brian Jones, one of the best circuit commentators and personalities ever to exist in British Motorsport.

Brian was and forever will be known As “The Voice of Brands Hatch”, thanks to his unique vocal tones and commentary style which was unmistakable every time he stepped into the commentary box and behind the microphone. Over the last few decades, he commentated on just about every major form of four-wheeled racing that passed through the Kent circuit, from Formula 1 and World Sportscars to the BTCC, Britcar and many, many club race weekends.

Of course, one event that has been synonymous with Brian was his favourite above all else – the Formula Ford Festival. Since its switch to Brands Hatch in 1976 up until just a couple of years ago, Brian’s voice always has been the quintessential accompaniment to the BRSCC’s main event on its annual race meeting calendar and added an iconic element to what has always been an iconic weekend. It was an event he loved and cherished dearly and he had always wished to see the 50th edition and while it is saddening to know that he won’t be with us to celebrate it, we will ensure that he is honoured this October in a fitting and suitable way.

Our hearts go out to Brian’s wonderful wife Ros, his family and every single one of his friends and colleagues who worked alongside him and will be missing him right now. It’s not the note we hoped to start 2021 on, but nonetheless we will remember him fondly.

Thank you for everything, Brian, and we sincerely hope you now rest in peace. We know that the greats of Motorsport racing around in the sky just gained the best person to put it all into words right now. We’ll make sure to keep it “high, wide and handsome” on track in your memory.
