SNETTERTON JULY 24/25 PREVIEW – BRSCC FIESTA JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP
It may only be two race meetings old this year, but the 2021 BRSCC Fiesta Junior Championship season has already been full of thrilling moments and intense racing and that theme is sure to continue this weekend as the drivers touch down at Snetterton for their third outing of the season. This will be another memorable meeting, as for the first time there will be four races on one weekend as opposed to the usual two, with a pair taking place on each day, plus a qualifying session on each day too and the usual free practice session.
Right now at this early stage, there’s a battle brewing between Deagan Fairclough and Jenson Brickley for the points lead, with Deagan holding it by 26 points thanks to his two wins at Croft and then a pair of Oulton Park podiums. Brickley, meanwhile, showed pace and promise in Yorkshire in the opening rounds but mishaps in the second race cost him points. However, he bounded straight back into contention with a commanding pair of wins at Oulton to close the points gap right down again. These two look likely to be the main men going forwards, but there are drivers behind looking to get into the battle too.
Jake Maynard is currently in 3rd place, ahead of Alex Ley in 4th who has really progressed well since his Silverstone debut last year and if it weren’t for retirement early in the first Croft race, he would certainly be in amongst Fairclough and Brickley right how at the head of the points table. Two 2nd places so far have proven his pace and he will wish to keep that up this time. Sid Smith is another who is getting used to visiting the podium too, although like Ley he too has points to claw back after a DNF, but he also has race-winning potential and will hope to unleash it at Snetterton.
Joseph Knight, Jake Triggs, George Davis and James Wallis fill out the rest of the top 10 standings, all of whom have had a variety of results and fortunes from Croft and Oulton and will want to leave Norfolk this weekend feeling as though they’ve made a step forward in their form. There will also be our rookies for this season including Daniel Lewis, James Pope and Harry Garmin who will just wish to learn and develop further and bring the cars home in one piece, while Archie Handy, Albert Webster and Alex Sprange are all back too, hoping to put any misfortunes they’ve experienced already this season behind them and push on from here. With four races on the bill this weekend, there’s plenty of opportunities for the table to potentially turn completely on its head, such is FJC’s competitive nature!
