BRSCC TAKES ON MG COCKSHOOT CUP FROM 2025 ONWARDS
The British Racing & Sports Car Club is excited to announce that they will be running and administering the MG Car Club’s Cockshoot Cup Race Championship from 2025 onwards.
The Cockshoot Cup is a silver trophy dating back to 1934 and since 1984 has been competed for in a race championship for MG sports and saloon cars.
The MG Car Club ceased to be a race organising club in 2024 and the Cockshoot Cup’s organisers are delighted that the BRSCC has agreed to secure the future of the popular MG championship by taking over the reins from the 2025 racing season. Links with the MG Car Club will be maintained, and all competing drivers will be required to join the Club.
The Class structure of four classes for race cars using slick tyres, ZR170 saloons running on treaded tyres, MGB and MG Midget using treaded tyres and standard MGF will continue.
There will be ten rounds in 2025 at five race meetings with the calendar to be announced shortly.
Commenting on the new agreement, MG Car Club’s North West Centre Chairman Paul Goodman said, “After many successful and enjoyable years, we believe that the time is now right to hand over the running of the Cockshoot Cup Championship, and I’m personally delighted that this agreement with the BRSCC has been struck. I look forward to working with the BRSCC’s organising team to ensure that MG Car Club racing members can look forward to many more seasons of great racing.”
Responding on behalf of the BRSCC, the Club’s Chief Operating Officer Paul McErlean said, “It’s a genuine privilege that the MGCC North West Centre has given us the opportunity of running and administering their Cockshoot Cup racing programme, and our race operations team will do their utmost to deliver MG Car Club racing members the best events and support in future seasons.”
Further details will be announced soon, but meanwhile the 2024 championship will continue with races at Anglesey Circuit (August 3rd and 4th), Oulton Park (September 7th) and Silverstone National (September 29th).
