BRSCC READY TO FLY INTO DONINGTON PARK FOR THE SUMMER

Sponsored by Nankang Tyre, The BRSCC 2025 Donington Park Summer Race Weekend is set to bring the heat to the iconic Grand Prix circuit, delivering a packed schedule of high-speed action and championship-defining battles. With a diverse range of championships and racing series on the bill, this summer showdown promises a weekend of non-stop entertainment, fierce rivalries, and edge-of-your-seat moments.

One of the most highly-anticipated contests on track this weekend will certainly be the Kent Models Mazda MX-5 Championship, which has kept spectators on the edge of their seats for one key reason – the win streak of championship leader Ali Bray. The AB Motorsport team boss has so far gone unbeaten in the campaign so far with wins in all nine races run thus far. There have been moments that run has been under threat, but Ali has always found a way to the front – but while he’s in a rich vein of form, could Donington Park be the event that streak finally breaks?

He’s not short of key rivals that could make it happen – former champion Steve Foden, double vice champion Adam Sparrow, William Chadwick, Richard Wootten (who’s in the form of his life right now), Harry Storer, Neil Chisnall and Thomas Walker just to name a few. Other may use Donington Park as a chance to break out and score their best results of the season thus far, but all eyes will be on the head of the field to see if anyone can beat Bray to the chequered flag at least once.

It’s also looking rather interesting at the top of the Clapham North Mazda MX-5 Clubman Championship, as Jack Warry heads the table going to Donington Park. He only has a five point margin ahead of 2024 champion Jonny Greensmith, the pair already looking locked into an tight battle at the head of the standings. Donington could see either driver take another big step forward, but their competition will also be hot on their heels.

Fellow race winners Jake Paice and Jordan Pimley are not only some thirty points off them at this stage, but also embroiled in their own fight over third place, but either one of them could find themselves taking advantage of any slip ups Warry and/ or Greensmith may make over the course of the event. Other names to watch in the field include Del Paice, Beau Parry, Will Breame, Matt Crozier and Kevin Bird, all of whom have had a mixed of results but could spring a surprise or two.

Over in the Clapham North Mazda MX-5 SuperCup, this weekend features their strongest entry of the season so far as the battle for the Pro class honours continues to take even more interesting twists and turns. Will Blackwell-Chambers has more wins than anyone else so far with six to date, but lies in third thanks to a DNF at Brands Hatch. Ollie Hall and Alistair Dendy are above him in the table right now with Hall holding a deserved lead, Blackwell-Chambers still has more points and ground to gain. He’ll also have Thomas Langford, George Grant and a returning Jack Harding to contend with too.

In the Club class, 2025 newcomer Sam Middleton has been on a real rampage, only failing to win the class twice so far. All of this incredible form and speed has helped him charge to a points lead of more than 200 points after just three events. He’s expected to be front runner and hard to beat once again, with the likes of Jim Barratt, Chris Ginn, Steve Kite, Clive Powles and Bruce Robinson hoping to try and at least put a dent into his great run of results.

Matt Luff is in command of the Demon Tweeks Audi TT Cup Racing Championship after three events as the championship moves on to Donington this weekend. Having come close in 2024, Matt has begun his second season in these Teutonic tin-tops with top results straight out of the gate, winning four races out of eight and never finishing off the podium thus far. The Audi TT Cup is into its second championship season this year, and is once again proving to be a competitive and exciting one-make series.

Matt’s pursuers are doing everything they can to try and close him down and stop him from building on his current 30+ point lead, and Donington marks the half way stage already. Newcomer Jordan Stilp will be using all of his experience to keep him in his sights and add to his sole victory at Oulton Park, while Sam Heading is only one of two other drivers to have taken a win also (the other being last year’s champion Bradley Burns). Ross Makar is also third in points right now despite only taking two podiums, while Sam Meagher, Andrew Rogerson, Oliver Devine-King, Charles Budd and more will also be ones to watch.

Putting on some great entertainment thus far on its newly combined grid for this year, the Nankang Tyre BMW SuperCup Championship comes to Donington with two rather intriguing class points battles beginning to take shape. In the newer 1 Series SuperCup class cars, Millie Hart is fresh from taking her first win at Oulton Park and heads the standings from Aydan Hassan, although the likes of Danny Wilkinson and Thorburn Astin are sure to be on the pace, as will Simon Waterfall and newcomer Martin Tolley, getting his first taste of BMW action.

In the Compact Cup class, it’s also a rather mixed up table at this stage given the varied fortunes of some regular front runners. Joe Doble leads the way, yes – but behind him, it’s Max Noble in second with Paul Mousell, Keith Towers and Ethan Woods in the top five. You have to look back to eighth to find defending champion Connor Grady, joint ninth for 2023 champ Gareth Claydon, and twelfth for Joe’s father Mike Doble, all of which have had a DNF within the first five races. Of course, dropped scores are yet to kick in, but it means that all three have a lot of catching up to do.

There’s a little bit of an endurance flavour to the Donington Park event this weekend too – the PBS Brakes SuperSport Endurance Cup is also crossing the half way point in their season already, with all three of their two hour enduros proving to be very interesting affairs. With six classes competing on track at the same time, all calculated by power to weight ratio, and added mandatory stops, driver changes and refuelling thrown into the mix, the need for fast stints, good strategy and slick pit work are key.

There’s an overall table as well as individual class standings and it’s here you’ll find defending champions Adam Read and David Drinkwater (BMW Compact, Clubman-C) out in front by just three points from Bruce Robinson (Mazda MX-5 Mk3, Clubman-A) and his multiple co-drivers from this year so far, which have included four time British Touring Car champion Colin Turkington. Other class leaders, such as Antony Unitt and John Stack (BMW, Pro-A) and James Alford (Audi TT, Pro-C) will be looking for more good results within their class here too in order to keep themselves in contention. Anything can happen over the course of the two hours, and one or two surprise results are always round the corner as well.

A slightly shorter pit-stop race affair takes place on Saturday with the SW Motorsports ClubSport Trophy, which always enjoys a strong turnout at Donington Park – and this occasion is no different! With almost 40 cars ready to race over 45 minutes across five classes, with a mandatory pit stop also thrown in for good measure, ClubSport Trophy races are usually great fun to watch, with numerous cars in contention for overall and class wins right up to the chequered flag.

Regular ClubSport Trophy watchers will recognise some of the established regulars running at the front, such as Phiroze Bilimoria’s VW Scirocco, Adam Marshall’s VW Golf GTi, and more Golfs from Julian Daniel and Mike Parsons. Across the entry, you’ll find the usual fun and varied mix of clubman race cars populating the field, such as Honda Civics, BMW Z4s, Audi TTs, Renault Clios and Mini Coopers, plus one or two interesting additions the grid, including former SuperSport Endurance champions Stuart Mead and Tim Hartland in a Golf, and Paul Plant in his Alfa Romeo 156.

Inspired by the ClubSport Trophy and sporting a class structure heavy inspired by the series, the new Fix A Wheel Production Cup rolls into Donington Park for the very first time, and does so with an incredibly healthy grid of just over 30 cars on this weekend’s grid. This series was created out of demand from competitors who wanted a ClubSport-style competition but in sprint race format, and the Club has duly delivered with two 15 minute encounters on offer in this series.

The field is comprised mostly of hot hatches, with typical cars such as Renault Clios, Honda Civics and Peugeot 206s common sights across the entry list. For this event there’s also the inclusion of a handful of BMWs, MGs and VWs as the field continues to grow and become more popular. Also in the field, you’ll find a handful of the new Silverlake DS3 Cup cars, which have really looked the part and settled in nicely to the new series. Drivers to watch in these machinery include Theo Longman, Ralph Budd, Jake Brook and Stefan Oates, as they bring the DS3s out for their third event of the season.

Another new series steadily gaining traction is the BRSCC Pro Sports Sprint Series, a new dedicated home for all things fast and loud. Purpose built race cars, high performance machines and various sportscars, GT cars, touring cars and more are all welcomed here for a series of 20 minute races that pitches all of the above against each other in six classes. With another great variety of cars in the field, there’s a fascinating mix of machines set to battle amongst each other on track.

These include David May in his Ginetta, Lee Collins in his Caterham, Matthias Radestock in his Lotus Elise, Jake Spencer in the Ariel Atom Cup car, and Dave Tyson’s Peugeot 308 Racing Cup car too. Plus, there’s a great mix of BMWs on the entry list including regular racer Jas Sapra and former BMW Compact Cup man Oliver Faller, Fix A Wheel’s very own Jared Coulson in a Renault Clio Cup car, and Wes Payne in Brake Dancer Racing’s Mazda RX-8. There’s no telling who will come out on top from this lot, with an air of unpredictability about this series.

On their second outing as a full time member of the BRSCC formulae roster, the MG Cockshoot Cup comes to Donington Park with a solid entry for round two of their 2025 campaign. This series has seen the Cockshoot Cup itself awarded to the championship winner since 1984, and there’s a rich history that runs deep within this paddock. From modern MG ZRs, ZSs and MGFs, to classic MGBs and Midgets, the sight of these varying generations of MG on track together make for an excellent sight.

In the early stages, Leon Wignall leads Class A, Martin Richardson heads Class B, Keith Egar is top of Class C and Phil Rigby is the sole Class F runner on the board thus far after the opening event at Oulton Park. Donington Park’s flowing nature will certainly suite the variety of MG machines on the full GP layout.
