METROS & 2CV @ CMMC MALLORY PARK RACE WEEKEND

23 May 2026 - 24 May 2026

The BRSCC joins the Classic & Modern Motorsports Club as we head to Leicestershire for a weekend of grassroots racing at the iconic Mallory Park Circuit, home to club partner The Motorsport School. Known for its tight, short and punchy 1.39-mile layout, it is the ultimate arena for mechanical agility and relentless slipstreaming. The paddock will be treated to a spectacular blend of vibrant tin-top action as two of the club’s most entertaining grids prepare to tackle the ultra-fast Gerard’s bend, the heavy braking zone of the Edwinina’s chicane, and the hairpin that promises plenty of tactical overtaking.

Following highly dramatic season openers, these two competitive grids are ready to dial up the heat on the Leicestershire tarmac.

Hickford Construction Ltd MG Metro Cup

The Hickford Construction Ltd MG Metro Cup unleashed a blockbuster opening round at Oulton Park. Pushing their Rover Metros to the absolute limit, race one saw the sideways Jack Ashton execute a masterclass charge to slice through the field to take the top spot, fiercely pursued by Matthew Simpson who mounted a heroic recovery drive to ninth after gearbox woes in qualifying and a pre race scramble for his gloves. Behind them, a freight train of Metros thundered across the line with Tim Shooter locking out the podium, closely shadowed by Benjamin Young & Mark Wilson.

Race 2 of the weekend treated spectators to a wheel to wheel civil war between teammates Ashton and Simpson. The duo traded paints and ultimately crossed the line with mere 0.108 between the pair. However, it was Ashton who took home the win with Simpson finishing 2nd. Not far behind saw Shooter seise his moment to sneak through for a 3rd place, just denying a hard charging Young. Tyler, Wilson, Houston, McCaughan, Goodwin, and Cross all safely brought their machinery home after another relentless battle.

Classic 2CV Racing Club

The Classic 2CV Racing Club made a spectacular debut on the BRSCC programme with a Snetterton 300 double header. We were thrilled to welcome them to the paddock, and the drivers instantly proved their worth storming into and out of corners four wide in a breathless display of racecraft! Defending Champion Nick Crispin snatched a dramatic race one win, resisting a last lap assault from Ethan Sparrow, who briefly led at Wilson before running wide at Oggies with a soft brake pedal. Andrew Bull overcame bodywork damage to deny Brian Heerey for third, whilst Simon Clarke launched a heroic recovery from 15th to fifth after an early spin. Seb Jones-White scooped sixth ahead of George Broadhurst, whilst Howard Wright picked off David O’Keeffe for eighth, and Simon Turner survived a three abreast Bombhole battle to take 10th ahead of Keith Oswin, Martin Riman, Chris Hall, Oliver Grantham, Roy Eastwood, Matthew Hollis, and Shirley Hennessy.

Race two cranked the intensity to eleven. Tom Perry took over the pole sitting Team Gadget car, though Hennessy and Jennifer Hall suffered pre race heartbreaks. Crispin led early before a charging Sparrow sliced through to lead lap two. A wild three abreast Coram battle saw Steve Walford lead Bull and Heerey, setting up an unbelievable five car freight train on the final lap. Sparrow lunged for the lead at Brundle before Crispin and Bull went door to door through Coram. Following a dramatic late touch at Murray’s, Bull won the drag race to the line by a microscopic 0.047 seconds over Crispin, with Heerey, Perry, and Sparrow crossing right on their bumpers. Walford claimed sixth, whilst Jones-White snatched seventh ahead of Sam Archer, O’Keeffe, and Turner after Wright suffered a spectacular late spin at Riches.

With the close-quarter theater of the Metros and the door-to-door thrill of the 2CVs heading to the tightest circuit in the midlands, Mallory Park is set to host an unmissable weekend of tin-top entertainment. On a track where a split second can separate the top step from the midfield, absolute precision will be required to secure a place on the podium. Prepare for breathless racing as the drivers gear up to fight for every inch of tarmac!
