There were a lot of well known faces at the Coventry Museum of Transport on the Tuesday before the Autosport Show when a surprise party was held to celebrate Alfa Romeo Championship racer Robin Eyre-Maunsell's 70th birthday.

Among those joining in the fun were John Watson, Russell Brookes, Dave Richards, Alec Poole, ex MSA Chairman John Grant and many of those who looked after Robin during this days as a Rootes Group works rally driver. These events were primarily in Ireland and the South of France and those present were entertained by many an anecdote relating to the 60s and 70s.

A slide show demonstrated the outrageous angles at which Robin was able to hold a Hillman Imp or Avenger, and there were pictures of his later efforts in Historic Rallying with Sunbeam Rapier, Tiger and Porsche 911.

Robin's second "career", in Alfa racing, which he started at the age of 65, brought along Clive and Christine Hodgkin, Michael and Diana Lindsay and his nephew Peter Guy L'Amie.
