ALLWOOD ALL SET FOR AMERICAN MX-5 ADVENTURE

CATEGORIES:

It’s been a long few months for Mazda MX-5 Championship racer Oliver Allwood and it must feel like it’s been a lifetime since the beginning of July, but finally it’s time for Oliver to pack his bags and grab his passport for his trip to America to compete in the Global Mazda MX-5 Cup Invitational race.

Oliver was one of some 20 drivers, including reigning Mk3 MX-5 SuperCup champion Alan Henderson, to make the grade in heading to the Parcmotor complex in Barcelona as part of the European MX-5 Cup Final. Having held the lead of the Mk1 points table after the Anglesey round, Oliver tested his skills against a selection of Europe’s finest MX-5 drivers in order to become one of the lucky 5 drivers selected at the end of the finals to travel to the US.

Amazingly, Allwood’s performance was deemed good enough to become one of the chosen 5, as he now heads to the magnificent Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey, California for this weekend’s Invitational race. He travels there along with Erik Blixit of Sweden, Gabriele Gardel of Switzerland and Moritz Kranz of Germany, along with Poland’s Kamil Franczak who made it through after also winning the online iRacing European MX-5 Cup sim racing championship.

These 5, as well as further international representatives from both Australia and Japan, will test their skills against 10 selected drivers from the US who are connected with Mazda in motorsport, be it the Global MX-5 Cup, Spec Miatas or the Mazda Road to 24 scheme. It’s certainly going to be a test of all the international drivers’ skills, including Oliver.

From everyone at the BRSCC and both of our Mazda MX-5 championship paddocks, we wish Oliver the very best of luck and look forward to hearing how he gets on. No matter the result, we know he’ll do us proud! Go get ‘em, Ollie!
